What is a Protective Hairstyle❓

A style that:
- Is gentle on your edges
- Hides the ends of your hair
- Allows your hair to grow with minimal manipulation
- Doesn't make you need to take pain killers.

Important❗
Not all hairstyles are protective. Braiding, plaiting, or bunning alone does NOT make a hairstyle protective.
A hairstyle can only be considered protective if it meets ALL the standards below. If it doesn’t, it is just a hairstyle, not protective.

Standards of a Good Protective Hairstyle:

1. Gentle on the hairline
2. Very lightweight, not heavy
3. Ends tucked away from clothing
4. Pain-free, no pain whatsoever
5. Allows washing & moisturizing
6. Not kept too long – max 8 weeks for most styles; mini braids/twists should be redone every 4 weeks to avoid matting

📌 Examples (list not exhaustive and only if all standards are met): remember that just braiding or just plaiting doesn't neccesarily mean it's protective.

1. Braids or twists put up (with or without extensions) if they are let to hang loose, they are not a protective hairstyle just low manipulative.
2. Plaits / Cornrows / Lines
3. Buns (puffs are not protective)
4. Wigs, only if they don’t cause tension
5. Weaves, only if they meet all the above standards
