*WOMEN IN BUSINESS MAKE BETTER WIVES & LEADERS*

Degrees don’t feed families. Experience does.

Henry Mintzberg said it best: _“Management is, above all, a practice where art, craft, and science meet.”_ Real leadership isn’t framed on a wall.

A PhD won’t teach you hunger, payroll stress, or how to turn an angry customer into a loyal one. Businesswomen learn that daily. Risk, trust, accountability — that’s their classroom.

That’s why they build stronger homes. Business runs on communication, compromise, and discipline. So does marriage.

And politics? Market women don’t study inflation. They live it. They hear the real complaints about food, fees, and jobs. That’s insight no journal can give you.

As Einstein put it: _“In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.”_ Some scholars govern from the ivory tower. Entrepreneurs lead from the ground.

We’ve measured leaders by certificates too long. It’s time we valued resilience, empathy, and economic sense just as much.

Because leadership isn’t about what hangs on your wall. It’s about lives improved.

Margaret Thatcher was right: _“If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.”_

ECZ: Why Not Give Unemployed Youths a Chance?*
_By Selina Chinyemba_

Why do headteachers and government workers keep getting short-term ECZ election jobs, while unemployed youths and graduates stay home?

*ECZ’s rules favor experience*
ECZ adverts say Poll Staff only need Grade 12, an NRC, and to be a registered voter. But they give “priority to persons who worked as polling assistants in previous elections”. Most of those are teachers and civil servants who already have ECZ certificates.

*Some roles even require formal jobs*
For District Election Trainers, ECZ says: “Must be in formal employment and recommended by their superiors.” For Voter Education Facilitators, it’s the opposite: “Not in full time employment”. So the rules are mixed.

*Youth unemployment is already a crisis*
Studies show graduate teachers country wide face “limited government recruitment” and a cycle where “lack of experience hindered employment opportunities”. ECZ contracts could give them both income and the experience they need.

*Sharing contracts helps fight poverty*
Short-term ECZ money in the hands of an unemployed youth circulates: food, rent, helping family. The same money to a salaried headteacher has less impact. Transparency International Zambia says recruitment must “guarantee equal opportunities for all Zambians, based on qualifications and competence.”

*The way forward*
Reserve most Poll Staff slots for first-timers and unemployed youths. If we want to see change and fight poverty, we have to share these small opportunities.
