Move Well.
Live Well.
Gather Well.
SALT IS NOT THE ENEMY, BUT BALANCE IS EVERYTHING. π§
For years many people became afraid of salt. Then the internet swung the other way and suddenly salt became a miracle cure for everything.
The truth sits somewhere in the middle.
Your body NEEDS sodium and minerals to survive.
They help with:
β’ hydration
β’ nerve function
β’ muscle movement
β’ energy
β’ stomach acid production
β’ mental clarity
This is why after sweating, sickness, fasting, travel, exercise or stress, many people feel better after proper hydration and mineral replenishment.
But not all salt conversations are equal.
Traditional cultures did not live on ultra processed food loaded with refined sodium. They ate mineral rich whole foods:
β’ broths
β’ fermented grains
β’ leafy greens
β’ natural herbs
β’ slow cooked meals
β’ traditional salts in moderation
The real issue in modern life is often mineral depletion and processed food overload, not simply βsalt.β
At The Society we believe in nourishment, not fear.
We believe in:
β¨ whole foods
β¨ balanced wellness
β¨ proper hydration
β¨ mineral rich meals
β¨ intentional eating
β¨ listening to your body
Some people may need to be careful with salt due to conditions like hypertension, kidney disease or heart conditions. Wellness is never one size fits all.
So no, salt is not evil.
But more is not always better either.
Eat slowly.
Nourish deeply.
Come home to yourself.

At The Society, we are not just serving food.
We are serving memory, restoration, and wisdom
Traditionally, zviyo is not βjust food.β
Our Revival Bowl is built around fermented zviyo, finger millet, one of the oldest and most respected grains in Zimbabwean culture.
Traditionally, zviyo is not βjust food.β
It is sacred.
Across many Zimbabwean communities, zviyo continues to be used during ceremonies, healing gatherings, rainmaking rituals, births, marriages, and moments where people seek grounding, connection, and restoration. It is regarded as a grain that bridges the physical and spiritual worlds.
The preparation itself carries intention.
The grain is soaked and fermented before cooking, not only to soften it, but because our elders understand that food should nourish deeply and digest gently. Today science speaks about gut health, mineral absorption, and fermentation benefits. African traditional knowledge has carried this wisdom for generations.
This why zviyo continues to comfort the body so deeply.
Warm. Soft. Restorative.
At The Society, our Revival Bowl combines:
πΎ Fermented creamy zviyo
πΏ Moringa
π³ Baobab
π₯ Peanut butter
π― Dates
π Seasonal fruits, seeds, and nuts
This is the kind of meal many bodies crave after:
β’ Operations and medical procedures
β’ Childbirth
β’ Burnout and emotional exhaustion
β’ Stress and grief
β’ Poor appetite and depletion
Because healing is not always loud.
Sometimes healing is sitting quietly with a warm bowl prepared with care, culture, and intention.
In Zimbabwe, restorative foods have always existed.
We are simply honouring them beautifully again.
Enjoy it at The Society or order for delivery. πΊ

One thing that became painfully clear to me after giving birth was how difficult it is to find truly healthy food and drinks in Harare.
I remember being told by my doctor that I was prediabetic, and honestly, it shook me. Especially because I had just had a baby. My body was exhausted, inflamed, hormonal, emotional, and trying to recover. But everywhere I looked, everything convenient was loaded with sugar, heaviness, or things that tasted good but didnβt love the body back.
That experience changed the way I started thinking about food, healing, and rest.
And truthfully, thatβs part of why I love The Society so much. πΊ
We are intentionally creating a space in Harare where people can eat and drink in a way that feels restorative, grounding, and nourishing.
Not punishment food.
Not diet culture.
Not boring wellness.
Just intentional meals and drinks that support the body gently.
Today Iβm having our Red Bloom Sangria, made with Chindambi (rosella), beetroot, citrus fruits, and honey.
Refreshing. Blood-supporting. Beautifully balanced.
And today being Motherβs Day, I think it matters even more.
Because mothers give so much.
Carry so much.
Lose so much of themselves while pouring into everyone else.
Sometimes restoration is not something dramatic.
Sometimes itβs sitting down peacefully, eating well, drinking something nourishing, and letting the body soften for a moment.
So today, letβs restore too. β€οΈ
