Der Tod in Venedig premieres tonight at the Wien. Benjamin Britten’s final masterwork is based on the novel Death in Venice by Thomas Mann. Our baritone Ben Connor appears as both the Polnischer Vater and the Reisebüroangestellter in this, as always, wonderful production by David McVicar. Toi Toi Toi Ben!

Once again gracing the stage at the as Fricka, the goddess of family values, is our dear Monika Bohinec. This evening sees Monika appear in the second (and probably most famous) of the four music dramas that make up Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. Seems very appropriate on what is a lovely Mother’s Day! Happy day to all!

Tonight at the our dear Monika Bohinec as Fricka in Wagner’s Das Rheingold. Looking ever so elegant and demure as the goddess of family values, but we all understand the strength and power that this role needs and we also know that Monika knows how to bring it!
She’s a goddess and she knows it!

How about this for one of those ‘about last night’ hashtags!!
We are so proud of our wonderful tenor Leonardo Navarro who, last night, made his debut jumping in to the role of Brighella in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos.
Leonardo will also be appearing in the performance on the 20th of April. Felicidades Leonardo! Eres asombroso!

One of the absolute masterpieces of concert repertoire, Mendelssohn‘s Elias, was performed on Sunday evening at Konzerhaus Klagenfurt.
With the Kärntner Sinfonie Orchester under the baton of Harish Shankar, our soprano Bryony Dwyer returned to Carinthia to perform as the soprano soloist, making her debut with this deeply moving music. Brava!

And he’s back! With this pesky virus still making the rounds the Wien has had to make another performance change due to the cancellation of “Kleider machen Leute” by Austrian composer Alexander Zemlinsky. Returning to an old favourite in “My Fair Lady”, and our old favourite in Ben Connor as Freddy Eynsford-Hill.
Ben asks if there is such a thing as too preppy??
To which we say… Pish-posh good Sir, what nonsense!!

The Wien once again making last minute adjustments to compensate for Covid and bringing out the ever crowd pleasing My Fair Lady. It really is a testament to the house that they have such a flexible and talented team able to keep up with these crazy times! And once again, Ben Connor is walking ‘on the street where you live’… but don’t worry, not in a creepy way!

After almost half a century and 251 performances, the curtain has fallen for the last time on the stunning Klimt-inspired production of Salome by Boleslaw Barlog at the
Salome is always moving and emotional, but Wednesday night’s performance was made even more so by the knowledge that this wonderful production is being let go.
Bravi tutti to everyone, above, below, on and backstage.
And a special congratulations to our tenor, Carlos Osuna - Carlos has been a part of this wonderful production 44 times! We have seen him as Narraboth many times, and for this final performance he sang the role of Third Jew.
An emotional evening. This will be a very difficult production to replace.
