When I ask what shampoo you use, it’s not to judge you. it’s because certain ingredients, mainly silicones and heavy waxes, can build up on the hair over time, and that buildup can interfere with how colour processes.

In some cases it can cause a mild or bad reaction in the chair. But usually minor and totally manageable, but worth knowing about.

that’s it! that’s the whole reason.

Now, does that mean supermarket shampoo is bad? NO!

The ingredients aren’t harmful, a lot of them are actually really effective, and silicone specifically gets a terrible reputation that it doesn’t always deserve.

For some hair types it’s actually exactly what they need. If a product is salon or supermarket, it can make your hair feel incredible or terrible, it really just comes down to your hair type and what it responds best to.

Where I do recommend going salon grade is if you’re a colour client, especially a blonde. Not because supermarket shampoo will ruin your hair, but because salon shampoos are formulated to protect your colour investment and reduce the risk of any product buildup causing issues at your next appointment. (Basically I don’t want you to waste your time or money and leave disappointed when it could have been avoided)

If you love your supermarket shampoo and your hair is thriving, keep using it. just do one thing for me -

Use a CLARIFYING or DETOX shampoo in the week before your colour appointment. it clears most of the buildup and makes the whole process smoother and safer.

If I ever notice anything when you’re in my chair, I’ll let you know and we’ll sort it out together. no drama, no shame 🤍
