One of the biggest mind games in tanning?
Lighting.
The same tan can look completely different depending on where you are standing.
Some lights pull out:
* red tones
* golden tones
* warmer tones
* cooler tones
And sometimes with no strong light, the tan can even look more brown and balanced.
So before panicking, judging a tan too quickly, or thinking a colour is “wrong,” remember:
light changes everything.
Play with your lighting.
Learn your room.
Learn how your tan looks in different spaces.
Learn what your client will likely see in daylight, bathroom light, studio light, and event lighting.
Because the tan might not have changed at all… the light just started telling a different story.
This is my opinion, my understanding, and based on my own testing and experience.
Every tanner sees things differently, but understanding light is a huge part of understanding colour.
Let’s talk about the tan solution that goes green.
I had one that looked so green even I doubted it.
And that says a lot because I test all sorts of things on myself like a willing little tanning guinea pig.
So I used it on myself. And not first time or second, or even the 10th time 🤣
Result?
The developed colour was actually beautiful.
But after the first rinse?
Oh I was green-green.
Like “should I photosynthesise?” green.
It took around two washes to properly remove that green tone from my skin, but once it settled, the actual tan was stunning.
Now would I use that on a client?
Absolutely not. Never.
Testing on yourself and using on clients are two very different things.
Just because something can turn out okay doesn’t mean it’s professional to risk it on someone else.
This is my opinion, my understanding, and based on my own testing on myself.
Every tanner will have their own thoughts, but for me: test it on yourself if you really want to know… never on the client.

Don’t forget to have fun! Money is not everything but a laugh and having principles is!!!
Having a cart inside your tanning area is one of the best things.
Mine holds a mix of:
* things I use all the time
* things only some clients need
* things I may suddenly need and don’t want to go searching for mid-tan
From spare towels to brushes, nose filters, masks, and little bits that make life easier — it all lives there.
And the best part?
As you get to know your clients, you start filling your cart differently.
That’s when your setup starts becoming really yours.
Not just organised… but smart.
A good cart saves steps, saves time, saves awkwardness, and makes you feel more in control of your space.
This is my opinion, my understanding, and based on my own tests and experience.
Every tanner builds their setup differently, but I truly think a well-stocked cart makes the whole tanning process easier and more professional.

You might need to learn pole dancing to afford all your ideas!! Go and learn , you might find lots of clients in one class 🤣
I keep little single-wrapped dry towels in my cart and I love having them there.
Yes, I have a bathroom.
But these are great for those moments when a client is a bit sensitive and just needs a quick face wipe without turning it into a whole event.
You can spray them lightly with water and use them to gently wipe the face if needed.
Quick, easy, handy, and they don’t make the situation feel dramatic.
Sometimes it’s the smallest things that make clients feel looked after.
Not every client needs it.
But when one does?
You’ll be so happy you had it ready instead of standing there wishing your trolley was smarter.
This is my opinion, my understanding, and what I’ve found helpful through my own work and testing.
Every tanner has their own preferences, but these little towels have definitely earned their spot in my cart.
