This unit was very interesting! We learnt about wig making, styling, fitting, and applying to a performer. ⠀ ⠀
I loved the look of random objects in the Pouf hairstyle and luckily had a little bird cage at hand. The history of Marie Antoinette, the hairstyle is quite interesting, and I thought the bird cage fitted well. ⠀
I've always pictured the Marie Antoinette appearance as a soft, elegant porcelain doll look and tried to represent that in my makeup and hair design. ⠀ ⠀

Our assessment was to design, style and apply a wig suitable for Marie Antoinette with modern curls. I've always found Marie Antoinette fascinating and it was interesting to learn more about her during this wig / historical unit. ⠀
While a lot of information may be speculation it still paints a tragic story. Marie's "Let them eat cake!" in response to hearing her starving peasant subjects had no bread was theorised to have been spread as propaganda, to rouse opposition to the monarchy. She was said to be kind, intelligent but ignorant to what was happening in France at the time. ⠀
Animal fat "pomatum" was originally used to style the iconic Pouf designed by Madame Rose Bertin and Léonard Autié. This hairstyle was slept in every night, until the next appointment. The fat could become rancid if left too long, attracting rats, and risking fire from all the candles nearby! ⠀ ⠀

Matt shaved his beard specially for this assessment!⠀
He's wearing THREE beards layered over each other and a lil moustache. ⠀

We loose lay real human hair strands to blend the edges of the beard into the skin. ⠀

The same as our female counterpart, our brief for this assessment was to design a character hairstyle using real human hair beard wigs to suit the tv show Vikings. We did not focus on character development but styling, beard application, loose hair lay, continuity and networking.⠀⠀

At the time of this assessment, Emily had shoulder length hair!⠀
The extensions are sewn into the hair in layers. They are attached to rows of tight braids along the scalp. ⠀
⠀
During my assessment day I discovered another student had used the same extensions used for my pre assessment. Luckily, I was able to fill out the look with some other pieces!⠀
