Everything's Coming Up Wavy
A wavy following the curly girl method

Realistic Expectations.. One of my biggest goals when starting this page was wanting to show a real curly journey including ups and downs, the failed wash days, the successes, the random backwards leaps curls sometimes make and real life hair - not just the filtered perfectly lit pictures.
Is it easy to get distracted and just want to post the pretty pictures? Of course. But that's not real life.. Well for me anyway. Does my hair look like that? Yes. But not all day that's for sure.
The volume falls, the frizz appears, the clumps fall apart which is all just part of the curly circle of life!
And it didn't take me a week, a month or even 6 months to undo the damage years of heat styling and bleaching caused my hair.
I had literal months where I questioned why the heck I'm going through all this effort for really messy looking hair 😅
It gets better. It really does. But it's not a quick fix. You're playing the long game here.
So if you need a cheerleader - I'm your girl.
How far are you into your - I'm coming up to 4 years!!

I never thought my hair would be shiny.
It was so flat and dull and honestly lifeless when I started I thought there's no way I'm going to get shine without silicones and hair oils/serums.
Well here we are. And here are the top 3 things that made a difference for me.
💦 Styling on soaking wet hair. The wetter my hair is, the more water I can trap in while styling - the better.
💦 Using a gel. My hair is the shiniest when I've used a gel to lock on the water. Using foam or mousse never quite gives me the same level of shine.
💦 The most important hair health & time. My hair was so unhealthy and damaged that it had no life in it to shine. So I focused on hydration and properly marrying conditioner and water when conditioning. But healthy hair takes time. It takes time to undo damage. It takes time to find itself. It. Takes. Time.
Also note that lighting makes a huge difference. I can be standing under fluro lights and then ugh what the heck is this frizzy mess - then walk to a window and be think oh heeeyyy how are you the same head of hair? Enter ring light and that's just next level. So bear that in mind when comparing your hair to others.
The shine is probably one of the things I love the most, it's what I'm most proud of.
Is shine something you struggle with?

"I do notice wavy girls calling their hair curly when it's really just a wave. I'll leave it at that" - rando in a curly fb group.
This was a comment on a thread about whether your hair is actually curly if you need to scrunch it 🙄. I mean I should have known better than to look but I couldn't help myself. And they were many more along those lines.
"just a wave" is why I felt like an outsider in a curly community for so long. "just a wave" is why I was endlessly frustrated and disappointed in my hair because it didn't 'curl up. "just a wave" is why I felt like a curly imposter.
Buuuut , they are not less than. They are beautiful. They have a place. Applying product and scrunching your hair isn't "making" your hair anything. It's caring for it!
I love my waves. I love the versatility. I love the uniqueness. I love that I can make it curlier or looser. I love that it's mine.
So if you're a wavy - find other wavies. Find your people. It was the best thing I did. It helped my get over my curl envy and embrace my hair for what it is not what I had wished it would be.
There are so many but here are just a few of my wavy favourites:
Rant over 🤣
Have you struggled with curl envy? What did you do to over come it?

I wanted to do a little get to know you and introduce myself. I honestly don't think I'm a very interesting person but here ya go...
🤍 I married my high school sweetheart & we just celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary.
🤍 I have ✌️ littles (💗💙). They are the light of my life.
🤍 I'm a bookworm & love to dance.
🤍 I have always loved hair, make up and nail polishes. I've done bridal make up for 2 of my sister in laws and my best friend.
🤍 I used to work for an online beauty company which sold gel polishes ( ) it only encouraged my love of all things nails 😅
🤍 I accidentally stumbled onto whilst down a YouTube rabbit hole.
🤍 I lost a lot of myself in motherhood. I stopped taking caring of myself and doing things I loved, like my hair and nails.. Finding the curly girl method was something I did just for me. And it had a snowball effect. I started filling my own cup in other ways. So yes it was just about hair to begin with but it has ended up being about so much more for me.
I would love to know something about you! How did you find ?
