Be Essentially Inspired
bit.ly/BelindaJane Hi there, welcome to Be Essentially Inspired, I'm Belinda. Then in May 2016, over breakfast with friends, everything changed!
I live a hectic professional life, have a wonderfully handy husband, exercise when I can and I don't drink coffee! Since I was a teenager, allergies have been a consistent source of irritation and distraction for me and whilst I respect conventional medicine, I have always believed that complimentary solutions in natural remedies and alternatives to keeping a healthy, happy life exist - I just cou

And next on my list is meal planning
I know there are apps and I've dabbled in using the menu on the thermomix
But these don't work so well for me
My brain can only do so much flicking up and down a screen before it taps out
And that equals more mental load because
a) my brain gets overstimulated
which leads to
b) having to remember to go back and finish it
With this set up, I've created 3 weeks for meal planning and each day will have some Velcro stuck to it
Then I've created a table with as many meals as I can think of that we normally have and doubled up those that we have most often - these will have the other side of the Velcro on them
And then, I have a little arrow which will also have Velcro and will indicate which week of the plan we're on
Sound excessive?
There was a time when I would have said a very slow, drawn out 'wwwwooooowwwww, that's........... a lot'
For this time in my life though, I'm over here doing a happy dance!!!!!
Hello way less 'what are we having for dinner tonight π€' and 'bye 'bye some more of my mental load ππΌ

This year I'm putting systems in place to reduce our mental load.
It's taking some mental load to do, but I know the pay off will be exponential!
We've been using a whiteboard for years and write up what we need from the supermarket as we start running out of things
I'm taking this to a whole new level - a tick and flick: tick it off the list and flick it from my π§
Now I've been to the supermarket to check locations of the things we regularly buy + added some things that are sometimes, this list will get printed and laminated, have a whiteboard marker attached
So the mental load of remembering 'what else do we need?' is reduced with the list being the prompt instead - the small things done consistently add up to big things
Let me know in the comments ππΌ, how do you do your grocery list in your household? Do you even do one?
And if you're someone who can go shopping without a list, kudos to you!
Even if its milk, bread and bananas, the number of times I have to repeat that in my head as I'm going to the shop, repeat it while while I'm getting the milk, bread and bananas π , and once I've bought them mentally checking that that was all I needed to get = writing a list for 3 things is much kinder for my brain π§

Our beautiful OTs who work with our kiddos gifted all of us Mums a session at the Styling Station here in Brisbane
Last week I took the leap and made a booking!
I had some tears at the start - this was something only for me
No parenting required, no practice, no observable outcomes and I got to drop the mental load for an hour
By the end of that hour I felt so incredibly calm and happy and confident - I even bought a t shirt on the weekend that isn't black!
The dress I'm wearing is one of the three items I got to bring home with me - up to 3 items are inured I. the session fee!
Cindy and Dana were my stylists and put me at ease right away and we had a lot of fun β€οΈ
Thank you again to our beautiful OTs and the ladies at the Styling Station β€οΈβ¨οΈβ€οΈβ¨οΈβ€οΈβ¨οΈ
For those who'd like to know more about the Styling Station, what they offer and how they're empowering women to step more into a version of themselves they've either only dreamed of or have no idea how or where to start, head over to stylingstation.org.au
P.s. if you're ever stuck for an idea for a present for me - also head over to the Styling Station website and get me a voucher - yes, they're that amazing!

The last couple of months I've been focusing on daily things to look after myself, it started with doing box breathing, 3-4 times a day with 5-10 repetitions each time
I'm still doing it, and when I can feel my nervous system start to ramp up, it's my go to
The effects of doing this, and it doesn't always feel like it's doing a lot at the time, is that I feel calmer for longer which = the logical processing part of my brain stays engaged for longer
And this = gathering more evidence that I am the kind of capable others see in me
= increased confidence in speaking up for myself
And what does all of this have to do with a photo of me in a helmet?
The last 3 weeks I've been 2, very short bike rides a week
I'm talking 5-10 minutes rides, on the flat
And I'm loving it ππ
The calmness I feel, the enjoyment I get from being active again, the kindness I'm showing myself by taking things at a slower pace so I can create long term changes (my pace is usually head down, all out bull in a china shop, no matter what; or nothing)
And teaching my kids that mum looking after herself isn't a 'luxury'
It's an important part of how I show up for them
Get any aha's from this? Share this with a fellow mum who can do with a reminder to be kinder with herself β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

Sometimes taking a moment for yourself is sitting down amd letting your little person paint your nails π₯°π¦π€ππΌ (if the emojis don't make sense, I had help from little lady and I let her choose whichever ones she wanted, it may be small, but I love watching her decide and it gives her power over some choices in her day ππ·)
