It was a quiet day with my fiancé. Rainy morning followed by some afternoon sun. I took time for me to reset. Long overdue. Worked out, soaked in a hot tub full of bubbles, then treated myself to a facial. I turned 51 today. No party. No gathering. That's OK. After the last few weeks I cherish every quiet moment and thank God for the health of by boys Eric & Malcolm, fiance José, my sisters Maribel, Lola and Jenny. All of my neices, & nephew. My friends, and their families. My birthday wish is for people to be physically distant so we can celebrate birthdays, weddings, graduations, and just enjoy time together. Enjoy the little moments.

Tuesday, March 31st, was the saddest day of my nursing career. I could no longer fight back tears. I came home physically exhausted. Mentally broken. I worked as an ER nurse during super storm Sandy and That was tough. This is something completely different. This virus has no mercy. SICU has 14 beds, all C19. Other areas are now ICU. It is there where I worked Tuesday. The sadness and shock rocked everyone to the core. It was and is palpable. As nurses and Healthcare professionals we have to put those feelings aside and do what we have to do to keep our patients alive. As we work, we hear ambulances pull up to the ER. As we work we hear the rapid response team called to the medsurg units. As we work we hear the CPR codes called overhead. It's a continuous sound of sirens, over head pages, monitors, ventilators and iv pump ringing. Twelve to thirteen hours pass and it's time to go home.
I haven't cried until Tuesday. I felt helpless, deep sadness and anger. Helpless because we are overwhelmed by the amount of patients and not enough staff. Deep sadness because many of the patients will die and not have their loved one at the beside. Anger because of our lack of preparation on many fronts. However, I will remain hopeful. Yes, I choose hope. I pray for the families of the deceased. I pray for my friends, family and colleagues on the front lines. I pray for all the essential workers who bust their asses. I pray for the research and scientists to find a vaccine/ medication to slow the progression of this virus. If you must go out for essential supplies observe the social distancing rules. Wear a mask or Please just stay home.

I WANT PEOPLE TO SEE THE FACES THAT TAKE CARE OF THE EMERGENT AND CRITICALLY I'LL. Look at us in & OUT OF UNIFORM. We all took an oath. We know how to work under pressure. This virus breaks all the rules. It's like a river busting through a dam. We are asking for the publics help. An inconvenience to some, sure. I don't know about you but being told to stay home in the comfort of a cozy couch, TV, own bed, bathroom and food beats being in a hospital bed. Possibly hooked up to a ventilator to help you breath, a feeding tube in your mouth or nose, iv lock to give you fluids, central line in an effort to give you life saving medication, a urinary catheter that goes in your urethra, or possibly a re**al tube if you have diarrhea. Also, isolated with no family to visit during this crisis. Stay home to slow down the spread of the virus. This is not just going to go away. Everyone has to do their part. We need a fighting chance. Give us an opportunity to save lives by staying home. Every time you are socially distant know that you are helping us save a life. @ New York, New York

Shop small businesses. If you can't visit. Purchase gift certificate(s). It's the best way to keep your local business afloat. Buy a package of visits or multiple services. Easter and Mother's day are around the corner.

Covid 19, information from the CDC. If you have underlying illnesses, or have family and friends that are seniors please have them stay indoors. If you begin to feel sick call your doctor, local urgent care or health insurance (most have a doctor/NP/PA) available to answer questions. It's a fluid situation. Please do not flood the ER for minor symptoms, or non life threatening symptoms. If you are told by your medical provider to Quarantine then do it to keep the virus from spreading to the most vulnerable. Keep up to date with what's going on in NYS at https://www.ny.gov/. For current CDC recommendations go to https://www.cdc.gov/
