You see the finished jars all the time, but the process of making Delilah Creams is where the magic really happens, so we recorded it for you to see.

There are two phases, a water phase and an oil phase, and this is the moment they come together. Mesmerising.

A little known fact is the salon is named Delilah, but my company name is actually Girls Can Wear Jeans Pty Ltd.

And I chose it as a statement of empowerment for the girls and for the g**s.

Because people of my vintage would know that Girls Can Wear Jeans is a reference from the Madonna song What It Feels Like for a Girl.

I chose it because the song samples a spoken word piece from a 90s film where Charlotte Gainsbourg says:

“Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short, wear shirts and things, because it’s okay to be a boy. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think that being a girl is degrading. But secretly, you’d love to know what it’s like, wouldn’t you? What it feels like for a girl.”

And this means a lot to me, because in this society we treat anything feminine as bad.

And it’s not.

It’s powerful.

You can never separate the person from the haircut. A hairstyle is never just hair. It’s a reflection of someone’s hopes, their identity, who they are, who they want to become, and how they want to move through the world.

You meet people and sometimes there’s this beautiful energy swirling around the room, and you just know something special is about to happen. A great style comes from connection. From trust. From paying attention.

That’s why relationships matter so much in hairdressing. The more you get to know someone, the more honest and aligned the work becomes. The haircut starts to truly reflect them, not just what’s trending or technically correct, but who they really are.

I’ve had far too many people in my chair lately saying they “can’t” have a certain haircut because their face is too round for a fringe, too long for short hair, too this for a pixie cut, too that for a bob.
It is absolute bu****it.
And honestly, it’s offensive.
I’m not sure where our industry decided it had the right to tell people their features disqualify them from expressing themselves. It’s outdated garbage, rooted in rules that should’ve been left behind years ago.
Haircuts are not about “correcting” someone’s face.
They’re about bringing someone forward. Showing their personality, their life experience, their energy, what they want to project to the world.
A haircut should support the person wearing it, not shame them into hiding behind proportions and diagrams.
If you think someone “can’t” wear a haircut because of their face shape, you need to revisit your skill level and probably learn a lot more about people too. Because this industry is equally about human beings as it is hair. You cannot separate the two.
