This evening the Honey Joy kitchen had the pleasure of Miss M joining me on the production line.
She was eager to learn all the steps and have a go at everything. Surprisingly she was actually really helpful and we enjoyed our time together. It's amazing how fast our babies grow into young people.
Just a heads up.. it's almost November... and we thought this year would never end π
We're making up a few bees wax wraps ready for Christmas gifting. No markets this year so get in touch if you would like some πβ€οΈ

Honey joy chookies have been busy. It's been a long time since they were this productive.
Think everyone one at our place is ready for spring. We are starting to see more bee activity during the warmer hours on sunny days πβ€οΈ

Late winter sun on our urban farm β€οΈ
We've had an unexpected visitor this week.. a lovely young rooster has come to pay my chookies a visit. He's awfully noisy! Hopefully on his way to a new home this afternoon π
If your lips are suffering from the winter blues like that poor rooster we still have lip balms available. Either message us on FB or pop into one of our stockists πβ€οΈ

Fresh honey is best enjoyed all year round πβ€οΈ
Did you know that crystallisation is a completely natural process that does not alter the taste or nutrition of the honey in any way. Freshly produced honey is always liquid but with time some varieties of honeys are more likely to candy than others. You may also notice that your honey is starting to firm up as the mercury begins to drop.
Itβs fairly simple to turn your honey back into a liquid again by gently warming it. Pop your jar or bottle in a container of warm water, and youβll soon notice things start to loosen up. Itβs best to steer clear of the microwave, the risk over heating your honey and your jar is too great!
And donβt forget, thereβs nothing wrong with a nice thick smear of candied honey on a hot, buttered piece of toastβ¦

Finally captured a bee on our camellia bush this week. I was beginning to think the bee's hated the Camelia's!
During the colder months bee's only come out to forage when it's warm enough. It's still important that there are plenty of flowering plants around for them to boost their stores, plus it's uplifting for our moods to see some pretty blooms during the cold dreary winter π
If you're revamping your garden during this time of social distancing and self isolation consider including a variety of plants that will flower all year round. There are endless options for spring, summer and autumn flowering. Some winter flowering blooms that bees love include salvia, alyssum, mountain marigold, namesia, banksia, grevillea and acacia. A quick trip or call to your local plant nursery will set you on the right path. πβ€οΈ
