I absolutely love helping people with their curls, which is why education has always been at the heart of Curly Cuts. It’s why I started all of this back in 2018.

The reality is that curly hair techniques simply can’t be taught in a few minutes over the counter. If they could, I wouldn’t have spent the last eight years creating classes, tutorials, writing blogs and educational resources to help curlies learn.

One of the biggest misconceptions about curly hair is that there’s a magic product that will suddenly make curls look less frizzy.

There isn’t.

Products don’t create curls—technique does.

I recognised very early on that it simply isn’t possible to teach someone everything they need to know about caring for their curls during a quick visit to the shop.

So whether you’re completely new to embracing your natural curls or simply want to update your techniques, I’ve created multiple ways to support you—both free and paid—so you can learn in the way that suits you best.

🖤Sometimes it’s easy to think you need to be a huge business to have a strong community around you, but this week has reminded me that’s simply not true.🖤

Over the many years of being in business ( I had my first at age 22!) I’ve had bigger businesses, smaller businesses, and everything in between. What I’ve learnt is that size doesn’t determine the impact you make or the support you receive. You don’t need to be a large business to make a difference in people’s lives, build meaningful relationships, or create a community that genuinely cares.

The messages, comments, orders, well wishes and support have genuinely lifted me so much. It has been a powerful reminder that what we’ve built together over the years is so much more.

The kindness shown to me and my family has been overwhelming in the best possible way, and I can’t say enough how much it has helped me through one of the toughest weeks I’ve had in a long time.

My face and lump are finally heading in the right direction, although the lump is still hanging around like an unwanted house guest. 😂

I’m improving every day, but my body is really depleted. At least my sense of humour has returned, which is probably a good sign!

I’m still not sure whether it’ll be me or hubby in the shop on Saturday, but normal operations should be back next week.

⚠️ SHOP UPDATE & HEALTH UPDATE ⚠️
🤕A non contagious infection had imploded in one of my facial glands and caused a significant lump and swelling throughout my face, jaw, lymph nodes, surrounding tissue and throat area.
I was in extreme pain and very swollen.I responded well to steroids late Friday afternoon, which provided a great deal of relief from the pressure and pain I was in. The break in happened right at a time when I was in the thick of this which did not help me.

My body didn’t respond to the first antibiotics (I have some underlying issues with this happening before).
A change of antibiotics , my body finally began responding to treatment, which was a huge turning point.
The last couple of days, the main focus has been monitoring my pain levels and ensuring the swelling didn’t return as severely and that the new antibiotics were winning the battle.

I was finally able to home from hospital today with a stash of medicine in tow !🎉

❤️ The staff at Canberra Hospital are just INCREDIBLE . I was so well looked after. 
I am so grateful for the best of care I received from the nurses, doctors, specialists, emergency department staff, and everyone involved.

💇🏻‍♀️All curly hair cuts bookings this week have unfortunately been cancelled. I have emailed everyone.

🚨 Shop Break-In
It will also take me some time to deal with the recent break-in at the shop. Right now my body is exhausted and wrecked , I still have a big lump and I’m simply not physically capable of doing very much.

🛍️ Online shopping is open . We have an end of financial year sale now on so take advantage. I’m hopeful I may be able to open for a few hours on Friday ( maybe Thursday) and Saturday this week for retail and refills only. I’ll provide an update on Facebook late Wednesday.

Shop update:

I’m still in hospital.

At this stage, I’m unsure about work next week and taking things one day at a time.

My husband will be at the shop for a short time this morning. If possible, please place click-and-collect orders online, or bring cash for refills and purchases. We haven’t been able to test the EFTPOS machine yet, as it was also thrown across the floor during the break-in. Printer is also damaged but can organise email receipts if required.
Order online her for delivery or click and collect . Hubby is kindly going to pack any orders .

This was our front desk yesterday. Not only do thieves steal, but they love smashing small business up whilst doing it. This is the reality of a business owner.

But my amazing husband has managed to patch the desk back together in just one day. Look what’s he’s done from that mess!

At least it is workable until I’m well enough to work through the insurance process and organise a replacement desk.

He’s Pretty amazing, hey?
