Mother’s Day has always been complicated for me. My relationship with my mum was not always easy, but as I’ve grown older, and especially since losing her, I’ve come to understand her in a different way.
She was beautiful, intelligent, vibrant and incredibly tough, but underneath that strength was someone who was also vulnerable and sensitive. I’ve realised that as mothers, we can only do the best we can with the tools, experiences and love we have been given ourselves.
There is no rule book for motherhood, and it truly is one of the hardest jobs in the world.
I’ve learnt this deeply through raising my two boys, who have grown into wonderful men. Looking back now, I can see that my mum did try her best, and so much of who I am today is because of her. She was my biggest supporter when I wanted to become a beauty therapist, and she taught me the importance of independence, encouraging me always to work and never rely on a man financially, shaped by the difficulties she experienced in her own childhood.
Today, I choose to remember her with understanding, gratitude and love.
To all the mums out there, I know you are doing your best, and today you deserve to be celebrated. My heart goes out to those who have a difficult relationship with their mum, the new mums navigating parenthood, the single mums, the women longing to become mothers, and the mums who have experienced the loss of a child.
And to anyone missing their mum today, I’m thinking of you too. Karen x.

I showed up everyday with a full face of makeup, hair coloured regularly, passionate and driven. I worked ridiculously long days, attended evening workshops, industry events … and I earned every certificate on those salon walls.

life is simpler, quieter, and richer in what truly matters. I’m still here & stronger, wiser, constantly learning as my industry is always changing and I am beyond grateful for every step of the journey.

While we are awaiting the full completion of independent testing, preliminary results suggest that the SPF level of the two products listed below is unlikely to meet the labelled SPF rating. A low SPF rating may increase the risk of sunburn during use and reduce the long-term effectiveness of preventing skin cancer.
