Cupping can be used as a treatment for tight, painful, and restricted muscles. Cupping encourages release of the fascia, which is a connective tissue that covers all muscles and cavities in the body. It also increases blood flow, and therefore provides oxygen and nutrients to the treated area, and dispose of metabolic wastes which helps to restore normal muscular function.

Modern cupping therapy has been increasing in popularity, particularly since Michael Phelps was seen with the tell-tale cupping marks in the 2016 Olympic Games. Cupping has been used traditionally in China, and other countries including Russia and Greece for centuries. The cups can be placed in a stationary position, or used with oil in a sliding fashion. Both techniques can be very relaxing and calming for the nervous system.
