Has the pandemic rendered touch taboo? As a massage therapist who understands and values the power of touch, it's a question that resonates with me.

It’s been so long since I have given a nice handshake when meeting someone new and not doing it always leaves me with a strange feeling, a lack of connection with the other person perhaps. This is just a small example of how touch has been lacking in our lives for the past year.

I came across this super interesting article relating to exactly this. My favourite part describes just how powerful and essential touch is for human beings: “Science is now beginning to provide an account of why touch matters so much. Touch on the skin can reduce heart-rate, blood pressure and cortisol levels – all factors related to stress – in both adults and babies. It facilitates the release of oxytocin, a hormone that provides sensations of calm, relaxation and being at peace with the world.”

Looking for new massage opportunities this year? Most of my wonderful therapists have gone in different directions after COVID and I am looking for new therapists interested in corporate massage work to be part of the Healthify team. It would be contract work to start off but it could lead to casual or permanent part time hours when things are 100% back to normal. Would be happy to mentor students or new graduates or welcome experienced therapist that are happy to learn new chair massage techniques.
