I’m about to show you why everyone says hair extensions ruin your hair!

This client had been wearing extensions for over a year, and her hair was in significantly worse condition than when she started.

The worst part? She was in constant pain.
When she spoke up, she was gaslit. She was told the hair loss and breakage were her fault—that her “home care” was the issue. When she mentioned the physical discomfort, she was told to take a Panadol.
RED FLAG. 🚩

Now, we all know home care plays a part, but let’s be real... this installation tells the true story.

This was a “fresh” install, not even 24 hours old! It was rushed, messy, tight, and poorly placed, resulting in immediate breakage.

I’m not here to put down another stylist, but I am here to educate you on what to look for. Always check the negative reviews before the positive ones. If a stylist tells you pain is “normal” or that you just need a painkiller to get through the day, run.

The first clips you see show how she came to me: sections placed too close together and applied too tightly, leaving her unable to wear her hair up and in severe discomfort.

Because if it’s not clean and comfortable, it’s not right! Simple as that!

We have now installed a fresh set of hair extensions. She loves her hair long, so we compromised at 24 inches and a maximum of 150g to ensure a completely safe, weight-balanced install. We used a hybrid method of the Invisible Hidden Weft and Nano Rings.

To complement her gorgeous natural (virgin) hair, we added a custom shade and length to perfectly match her root, blending it with lighter tones to brighten her hair and give her the ultimate dimensional blonde look.

Spilling all the secrets 🫢

Do you use the over-under technique?

I see so many installs where the nano tip hair extensions are applied in the same direction all over the head
Especially with hair extensions that don’t match the root colour.

In the video clip above, you can see that in the nano tip application, the hair is placed over the nano tip. This creates a very discreet installation.

In contrast, you can place the natural hair under the nano tip Hair Extension, which makes the keratin holding the nano tip fully visible. This is far less discreet, but it can be useful in certain areas of the hair. Keep reading to find out why.

Hairline - Under, the natural hair should sit under the
nano tip hair extension.
Why? When the client wears their hair up, natural hair can disguise the keratin tip of a nano tip hair extension.

Part line and crown - Over, the natural hair should sit over the nano tip hair extension.
Why? When the client’s hair is down, their natural hair disguises the keratin tip of the nano-tip hair extension.

Remaining hair- personally, I like to go over.
Why? Because it looks the most visually appealing and is the least noticeable when the wind blows and parts the hair. It’s also a great technique when you have nano-tip hair extensions that aren't rooted and want to create a balayage look that blends.

None of this double-beading! 🙄 that’s not necessary. If you use silicon-lined beads, and ensure enough hair has been placed through the bead; your Nanos won’t slip.

Unlike other extensions that use glue, tape, or bulky beads, nano rings are attached with a simple ring system, making removal gentle and easy.

Nano ring extensions typically require refitting every 6-8 weeks to maintain healthy hair and prevent breakage. As natural hair sheds, the amount of hair attached to the extensions decreases, which can cause tension on the remaining strands. Refitting distributes the weight of the extensions more evenly, preventing this tension.
