Our lips do more than contribute to appearance, they also play an important role in comfort, hydration, and everyday function. Over time, factors such as ageing, lifestyle, and environmental exposure may contribute to dryness, changes in texture, and the appearance of fine lines.

Every person is different, which is why we take an individualised approach. During your consultation, we will discuss your concerns, medical history, and goals to determine whether treatment is appropriate and, if so, the most suitable management plan for you.

For appointment enquiries, please contact Michael on 0403 422 143.

Our consultations focus on understanding your concerns, assessing your facial anatomy and muscle movement, and discussing appropriate treatment options where clinically suitable.
A comprehensive consultation is required to determine suitability for any treatment. Recommendations are based on your individual clinical assessment.

Every face ages differently. And that’s exactly why a personalised assessment matters.

This educational video highlights how facial aging patterns can vary across different population groups. While there are recognised trends in the medical literature, no two people age in exactly the same way.

Factors that may influence how we age include:
• Genetics
• Skin structure and facial anatomy
• Sun exposure
• Lifestyle and environmental factors
• Hormonal changes
• Overall health

Some people may notice earlier changes in skin laxity, others may develop fine lines sooner, while pigmentation or changes in facial support may become more prominent for others.

Understanding these individual aging patterns allows practitioners to take a more personalised approach when assessing facial anatomy and discussing treatment options.

Every patient deserves an assessment based on their own anatomy, concerns and goals rather than assumptions based on age or ethnicity alone.

This post is intended for education only and does not replace an individual clinical assessment.

The lower face is constantly in motion, with several muscles working together to create our facial expressions.
Over time, repeated muscle activity, along with changes to the skin, fat, ligaments and bone, all contribute to the way the lower face changes with age.

This video highlights three key muscles involved in lower facial movement:

• Depressor anguli oris (DAO): Pulls the corners of the mouth downward.
• Depressor labii inferioris (DLI): Depresses the lower lip.
• Mentalis: Elevates and protrudes the lower lip while creating the characteristic dimpling of the chin.

The mentalis muscle is particularly interesting. Every time we speak, smile, drink or express emotion, it contracts. In some people, repeated contraction of this muscle, combined with the natural ageing process and changes in the overlying skin, can contribute to the appearance often described as an “orange peel” or dimpled chin.

A thorough understanding of facial anatomy is fundamental to cosmetic medicine. During a personalised consultation, we assess how these muscles function as part of a comprehensive facial assessment and discuss the treatment options that may be appropriate for your individual anatomy and concerns.
