A proud day for United Workers Union members in Western Australia.

Members are celebrating a hard-fought victory that will give thousands of workers and their families greater certainty about the future.

From 1 July, visa holders in the WA public sector will be eligible for permanent employment, giving thousands of workers access to greater job security, guaranteed hours and workplace entitlements previously out of reach.

This win happened because workers came together, shared their stories, met with decision-makers and refused to accept a system that treated them differently from their colleagues.

The decision aligns the WA Public Sector rules with private sector standards that cover most WA workers.
