July is UV Safety Month, a timely reminder that sun protection isn't seasonal.
Queensland has one of the highest UV exposure rates in the world, and unprotected exposure remains one of the most significant risk factors for skin damage and skin cancer.
Despite this, misinformation about sunscreen is common.
We asked Dermal Clinician Tasmin to address some of the most common sunscreen myths she hears in clinic... from cloudy-day misconceptions to how much protection you actually get from your SPF.
Daily protection remains one of the simplest and most effective habits for long-term skin health, regardless of skin tone or the weather outside.

The right device isn't always the newest one.
Energy-based devices all work differently, which is why understanding the technology is just as important as understanding the concern you're treating.
The best outcomes come from choosing the right device for the right indication, not simply the most powerful one.
Which device are you wanting to learn more about?
All cosmetic procedures carry risks and vary by individual. A consultation with a registered practitioner is essential to assess suitability, risks, and aftercare.

CoolPeel is a laser that resurfaces the top layers of the skin and may be used to address fine lines, sun damage, pigmentation and enlarged pores.
It is often performed in the cooler months, as reduced sun exposure during recovery is a relevant clinical consideration.
These images show this patient following a course of three CoolPeel treatments to the face and décolletage, performed monthly over three months. The post-treatment image was taken five months after the first treatment.
Outcomes shown are only relevant for this patient and do not necessarily reflect the results other patients may experience, as results vary for each individual. A comprehensive consultation is essential prior to any procedure, ensuring a clear understanding of suitability, risks, potential outcomes, and aftercare requirements.
This image is shared with the patient's explicit consent and is intended solely for use on Ascension's official channels. Redistribution or reuse by any third party is strictly prohibited.
The PicoSure Pro technology delivers ultra-short pulses of energy measured in trillionths of a second. Unlike traditional lasers that rely more heavily on heat, Pico lasers create a powerful photoacoustic effect that shatters pigment into microscopic particles.
Think of it like breaking a large rock into fine sand. Once those pigment particles become small enough, your body's natural immune processes gradually recognise, transport and clear them away over the weeks that follow.
This is why results continue to evolve after treatment. The laser begins the process, but your body completes it.
Understanding the science behind your treatment is just as important as understanding the result you're hoping to achieve.

The number on a sunscreen matters less than most people assume.
Application amount and reapplication frequency matter more.
The difference between SPF 50 and SPF 100 looks significant on the label, but the actual gap in protection is small.
The SPF number is only part of the picture. Consistency outperforms the label every time.
The commonly cited guidance is roughly a teaspoon for the face and neck alone. Most people apply significantly less than this, which affects the actual level of protection achieved regardless of the SPF number stated.
Reapplication every two hours, and immediately after swimming or heavy sweating, restores protection that has already broken down.

One word. Hundreds of possibilities.
Not all peptides serve the same purpose, which is why understanding which peptide you're using is often more important than simply looking for the word on the label.
Have you ever checked which peptides are in your skincare and what they do?

Ageing isn't influenced by time alone.
Sun exposure, lifestyle, genetics... and even sugar all play a role in how our skin changes over time.
Glycation is one of the lesser-known processes involved in skin ageing, yet it's a fascinating part of the conversation.
One range we use and recommend is the A.G.E. range available in clinic.

Healthy skin isn't built in a day.
It's built through the habits we repeat without thinking.
Today on World Skin Health Day, we're sharing the routines, products and practices our team continues to come back to, because consistency will always outperform complexity.

Your Vitamin C might not be doing what you think it is.
When it comes to Vitamin C, the formulation matters just as much as the ingredient itself.
Stability, packaging and the supporting ingredients all influence how well a serum performs over time.
