Small businesses don’t have huge marketing departments. We have passion, coffee, late nights and communities that choose to support us.

In honour of the closing of NAIDOC Week 2026 and this year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, I am so excited to share my Acknowledgement of Country artwork, which will soon be hanging proudly at The Village.

This piece took several months to create, and I am honoured to finally share its story.

🤎The Story – York (Woman)🤎

The outer symbols represent women in traditional Aboriginal art, shown through the curved “U” shape, a digging stick and a coolamon. Flowing pathways and resting places symbolise the journey of women and motherhood across generations, from our ancestors to the women we are today.

The dots and egg-like patterns represent the journey of life itself. Beginning with the outer circle of white dots, they symbolise our eggs, menstruation, fertilisation and the final stage of our tiny humans growing within us. Together, they honour the cycles, creation and transformation that connect generations of women through motherhood.

Four textured circles acknowledge the realities of womanhood and motherhood, including pregnancy, infertility, miscarriage, birth trauma, postpartum depression and the many unseen experiences women carry.

Moving inward, the repeated “U” shapes represent women gathering in community, women of all ages, cultures and experiences coming together to form a village. The two flowing lines within the centre represent Ciara and Kathleen, founders of The Village, while also symbolising the connection between practitioner and mother.

At the centre stands a woman inspired by The Village logo. She represents women in all stages of life, honouring the diversity of women’s bodies and the practitioners, mothers and women who walk through The Village doors.

The background dots represent life itself, while the meeting places within her body symbolise her mind, heart, womb, strength, wisdom and nurturing spirit.

This artwork honours women in their entirety: mind, body and spirit. A special mention to my son, Taj, who helped choose the colours and used his tiny fingers alongside mine to blend the first layers of paint.

Above all, this artwork is a reminder that motherhood was never meant to be walked alone.

It takes a village.

Sick mum. Sick bub. Running on little sleep. Just surviving atm, if I’m honest.

Then I woke up to a delivery from ✨J O Y J A C K S O N ✨ Ayurvedic fudge, pumpkin soup, fresh pastries and so much love wrapped up in every bite.

I sat at the table and cried.

Not because of the food, but because of what it represented. Someone seeing me. Someone showing up. Someone reminding me that I don’t have to carry everything alone.

Thank you, Joy. You are such a beautiful soul. 🤍

HAPPY NAIDOC WEEK! 🖤💛❤️ 50 Years of Deadly.

Today, despite being sick, tired, and navigating the usual mum struggles, Taj attended his first NAIDOC celebrations to help kick off the week.

I walked alongside my mum and the woman who continues to teach me so much about our culture. My niece and nephew also joined, who wear their Blakness with so much pride.

NAIDOC Week is a celebration of who we are as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, our culture, history, music, art, resilience, and the generations who have shaped this land for tens of thousands of years.

Keep an eye out for NAIDOC events happening throughout the week and take the opportunity to learn more about the oldest continuing culture in the world.

Do I dare bring it back this year?

This morning I had the honour of heading to Dumas House and presenting to the future trainees from the same traineeship program I graduated from in 2025.

I spoke about my journey, facing workplace racism head-on, navigating both the good and the challenging moments, and the resilience we all carry within us. Despite a sleepless night, a teething baby, and personal challenges behind the scenes, I shared the importance of showing up, using our voices, and creating change for those who come after us.

With NAIDOC Week beginning on Sunday, it felt incredibly special to step back into a space I love—being a corporate baddie, working in government, advocating for our communities, and hopefully inspiring the next generation of leaders.

And this time, with a baby on my hip. 🖤💛❤️

Fact: I’ve completely lost my identity postpartum, and I never thought I’d be here.

Somewhere between becoming a mum, surviving on little sleep, showing up for everyone else and carrying the mental load, I lost a piece of myself.

I love being Taj’s mum more than anything, but if I’m honest, there have been days where I’ve looked in the mirror and wondered who I am outside of motherhood.

Lately, I’ve started feeling little sparks again. Sitting down to play with makeup. Creating for the sake of creating. Feeling that passion slowly come back.

It’s only the beginning, but maybe finding myself again doesn’t mean becoming who I was before.

Maybe it means meeting a whole new version of me. 🤍

Officially back doing makeup means officially spending all my money at Sephora and Mecca again. 💸😂

It’s been a while since I’ve needed to properly restock my kit and let’s just say… makeup prices have humbled me.

Excited to test some new products and see what lives up to the hype. Want a makeup haul? ✨

Now I’m sleep deprived, chasing around Taj, navigating motherhood and having a slight identity crisis… but maybe she’s making a comeback 🤪✨

Not that anyone asked but here’s what’s trending in makeup right now 🤎

And honestly? I’m here for it.

We’re seeing less heavy makeup, less perfection and more individuality.

Skin that looks like skin.
Lips that don’t need to be overlined within an inch of their life.
And makeup that enhances instead of hides.
