BUT WHAT IS SOFT GLAM❓
Makeup will forever be interpretive, and what I view as soft glam can be completely different to another Makeup Artist’s or Client’s interpretation.
This is what makes makeup so special from artist to artist, but can also create some difficulty when consulting with clients if not done clearly.

Closing the window between what I think and what my client is imagining is one of the most important parts of event makeup as it’s a collaborative practice.

READ BELOW for tips on getting on the same page during your consultation:
1. Use reference photos! If not your own, something from Pinterest. Keep the photo/s up throughout the entire consultation. Keep visual references to 1-2 images max.
2. Ask: What do you see and like the most about this image? Is it the eye/liner, or foundation/cheeks? Etc.
3. Explain: As the artist break down what elements are in the makeup and what key elements you’ll be applying. Let your client tell you about what sounds good and what level of makeup they are used to. Eg. The colour pallet or tones, what kind of coverage is used or what amount of intensity is required to achieve this look?
4. Offer Options: If the image has a winged liner and I don’t think it will suit my client, what options can I offer that will still achieve the look that they are drawn to visually. How can I still create the feeling of an element but in a way that suits their features or is dialled up or down to suit the intensity they are comfortable with.
5. Recap: Recapping what you’ve decided on going with is essential. Point out what will be recreated and what will be tweaked and explain how it will be changed.
