The sooner skin cancer is found, the easier it is to treat.
The best way to ensure skin cancer is found early is to get to know your skin and what’s normal for you. Any changes including new spots, or changes in shape, colour or size of an existing spot should be checked by a doctor.
Most skin cancers are found by people checking their own skin or are noticed by a loved one.

Did you know it’s the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation – not heat – that causes skin cancer, as well as sunburn, tanning, premature ageing and eye damage?
Unlike the sun’s heat and light, we can’t see or feel UV rays. That means we usually don’t know when our skin is being damaged until it’s too late.
The free SunSmart app provides you with sun protection times each day using forecast information from the Bureau of Meteorology and live UV data from the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency.
Download it for free from the App Store or Google Play.

Did you know that today is Check4SpotsDay?
It was a day that was started by Peter and Julie Mansell who lost their daughter Morgan to melanoma in 2108, when she was just 25.
In honour of Morgan's birthday on January 30, Peter and Julie encourage you to participate in Check4Spots Day. Grab a partner and check for unusual spots, particularly in those hard-to-see areas such as on the back, neck and scalp. See our ABCDE guide of changes to look for: https://bit.ly/SkinCheckGuide
Doing a skin check with your partner won’t take long, it might even be fun, and could potentially be life-saving!
Regular self-examination and being familiar with your own and your partner’s skin – makes it easier to recognise any new, or changing, spots or moles.
If you do see anything of concern then seek medical advice (from your GP or a skin cancer clinic)
