Our skin is our road map to our inner world!
In Ayurveda, knowing your own individual blueprint is the key to long-lasting radiance. It’s not just skin types and imbalances, it’s knowing your unique constitution and nurturing yourself through the seasons you find yourself in.
You are more than your skin, you are energy babe! Time to work with that instead of just focusing on the aesthetic or the outward world.
Time to go inward and experience long lasting radiance!

My skin is having a really interesting expression at the moment and I thought I’d share. I believe it’s really important to acknowledge that our skin balance & radiance is a big part of our emotional balance.
Something interesting happens in perimenopause, where our skin can revert back into what our skin was like as a teenager….
I have a theory about this.
Hint…it’s actually not topical but EMOTIONAL
In perimenopause, this is the pitta energy’s swan song. Pitta (fire & water) begins sparking up in our teenage years. This is when inflammatory breakout and acne can begin and associated with that is the corresponding emotions of the awkward, unsure teenage years.
The metabolic fire (if we have too much of it) drives inflammation, acne, sensitivity and feelings of anger, frustration and passion. In perimenopause, this can rise again.
I have a theory, that if we have experienced pitta imbalances in our teenage years, this can revisit us in our peri season. Often, we can begin breaking out like a teenager again (seemingly out of nowhere).
If we have not processed some of our awkward teenage emotions in their entirety they will arise when trigger in our 40s and they manifest into having ‘teenage skin’ again.
I have a lot of exciting work happening. However, it has triggered some emotions around being seen, being rejected and not feeling good enough (my teenage story) and it’s triggered a literal teenage like breakout in my skin - which is exactly as my skin was in my teenage/early 20s years.
How to ‘fix this’?
Not with a heap of topicals or treatments but with a LOT OF SELF LOVE & EMOTIONAL nurturing. Love that teenage girl through the lense of a 40 something somewhat wiser woman. Sometimes the best thing we can do for our skin, is just love it (and ourselves) with where we are at. Loving self compassion is the best tonic for the passionate pitta who can be really hard on herself!

Woo Woo things I do everytime in your Ayurvedic facial to create ritual that’s not actually advertised on my treatment menu.
An Ayurvedic facial is not just about restoring balance in the skin qualities & energies so natural radiance can shine outward. It is about engaging the whole being and all the senses to create a holistic and deeply restorative experience.
How often these days to we get to adorn ourselves with a ritualistic experience as an extension of our skincare?
I live a bit of woo woo but Ayurvedic woo is anchored in wisdoms that are over 5000 years old. It works and it honours!

Worrying about ageing is ageing you!
Radiant skin through your joy.
In Ayurveda, our skin is an outward reflection of our inner world.
Our skin will show certain qualities & imbalances when our doshic energies are in excess or depletion.
Each of these energies impacts not just how we look but how we feel.
Ayurveda acknowledges that each doshic energy has a physical and an emotional component.
Ageing concerns in the skin are always connected to excess vata. Worry & fear amplify vata dosha in the body & mind; accelerating AGEING in your skin.
Radiant, youthful skin through joy is a thing!
Skin health is not just an expression of balance, it’s also an expression of what we feel.
As we get older, vata increases in our skin, body & mind.
More vata = accelerated ageing processes in our skin!
Excess vata contributes to feelings of worry, fear, nervousness, anxiousness & indecision. The more we worry about ageing, the MORE we contribute to the actual ageing process.
DON’T WORRY BE HAPPY can actually help your skin SLOW DOWN the ageing process.
Yes, we need to nourish our skin in the right ways but we also need to pause, take a breath and begin to embrace our wisdom. If we begin embracing it, we can begin to release the fear around it. Ageing skin can be radiant and vital whilst we sit in the space of looking our age. We don’t have to focus on reserving this inevitable transition and being in a constant state of worrying about this natural process.
Ayurvedic facial therapy is about nourishing and rebalancing your skin in a way that calms your system and embraces the season you are in. Experience this way at Flow Facials.

Micro rituals to repair your skin barrier this winter season.
I always say, pause. Stop all skincare with the exception of rose water, oil, honey & ghee. Proceed gently and intentionally. Do not think about exfoliating. Do not buy a heap of expensive barrier repair serums.
Swipe to read and save for this cool, windy winter season.

Healing your skin barrier. This can actually be anchored in how you are facing the world around you.
Vata season means more skin barrier issues. But what does this actually mean?
Our skin barrier is:
• Protection
• Regulation
• Connection
• Communication
Yes it is made of skin cells, lipids, ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids but it is also literally showing us how we show up in the world.
In Ayurveda, our skin is always telling us a story. When our barrier becomes impaired, it is telling us our bodies and our boundaries have been depleted.
A healthy vital skin barrier requires balanced doshas, a strong digestive fire, strong OJAS, an honouring of seasons & balanced emotional nourishment.
Healing our skin barrier is more than using skincare to nourish it. It is also about expressing and honouring our boundaries.
When we take on too much or give too much out, our reserves of nourishment become depleted. Radiant skin is always about
balance babe!
Too much vata...think over giving, over doing, not resting will dry & thin your barrier.
Too much pitta...think burning the candle at both ends will create a reactive, sensitised barrier.
Too much kapha...think holding on to things that are not serving you will create a dull and sluggish barrier.
Our skin barrier needs the right topical foundations. In Ayurveda, this is mists, oils & massage daily and in conjunction with the seasons. From an energetic perspective, we wear our emotions and our boundaries on our literal barrier to the world around us. Yes, skin health is an inside job. But it is also an outward expression of how we are showing up.
Do the topicals & the nourishment. But also do the communication and expression part. This is key to a vital and radiant complexion, no matter what the season!
