Buckle up MUAS, it’s formal week... so as promised here are Connie’s tips & tricks to survival... so bare in mind this clientele is 16-18 years old - makeup experience ranges from all time pro level professional YouTube watching, product knowledge way higher than ours, requests for highlight to be on fleek.... to zero - which is all totally fine.... but you need to know how to look after this clientele in order that things don’t go south and Susie isn’t crying in your makeup chair asking you to make her black Smokey eye request “lighter” - we’ve all been there! So... first things first - she must show you a reference picture, preferably of your work, if not definitely your style! You trying to recreate a style that is completely off brand for you is probably never going to work out for either of you. A client should be booking you on your style, not asking you to recreate something completely left of centre to your aesthetic... butttt at such a young age and any age to be honest, a lot of people don’t have that train of thought. Anyhooo, reference picture is shown and you detect that the reference is a full glam, very dramatic look and Susie looks very natural, perhaps inexperienced with makeup so you ask her if she has ever seen herself with such a dramatic look. Susie says she never wears makeup. 🧐 DO NOT DO THE BLACK SMOKEY EYE SHE REQUESTED! So at this point you have the chat with Susie that you can always make something darker but we aren’t going to strip it all back and start again to make it lighter. So the plan of attack is to start a bit lighter then build. Susie now has confidence in you, you know your s**t and so we begin. Scenario 2..half way through the makeup Susie has gone from loving herself sick as she is loving the makeup so far... to mute. She will not look at herself in the mirror you’re working in front of and the convo has ceased. News flash - she hates the makeup, it’s too much. DO NOT CONTINUE! This is your time to ask Susie how she’s feeling about the makeup and gives you the opportunity to put the Smokey eye brakes on a little rather than completing the look then at the end Susie pipes up with “will my eyes stay this dark” 🤯 TBC...
