Supporting the people who support someone with BPD

11/07/2026

Boundaries aren't walls. They're doors with locks.

Loving someone with BPD doesn't mean sacrificing your own wellbeing.

Healthy boundaries aren't about punishment, control, or rejection. They're about protecting your peace while still treating the other person with kindness and respect.

You can be compassionate and say no.
You can love someone and choose not to accept harmful behaviour.
You can care deeply without losing yourself.

Boundaries aren't selfish.
They're how relationships become healthier and more sustainable—for everyone involved. 💙

✨ What's one boundary you've learned to protect, even when it felt difficult?

💙 A Gentle Reminder for Friday 💙

If this week has been heavy, you're allowed to put it down for a little while.

Loving someone with BPD can be deeply meaningful... and incredibly exhausting. There are moments of connection, moments of confusion, and moments where you question whether you're doing enough.

You don't have to have all the answers today.

You don't have to fix everything before the weekend begins.

Take a deep breath. Drink some water. Step outside for a few minutes if you can. Read a chapter of that book. Watch something that makes you laugh. Sit in the quiet without feeling guilty.

Looking after yourself isn't abandoning someone else. It's making sure you still have something left to give tomorrow.

Wherever you are on your journey, I hope you find at least one small moment of peace this weekend.

You've made it through another week. That's enough. 💙

✨ What's one small thing you'll do for yourself this weekend? Share it below—you might inspire someone else.

💜 "I am not responsible for other people's happiness."

This can be one of the hardest lessons to learn when you love someone who struggles with intense emotions.

Many of us become experts at fixing, rescuing, reassuring, and carrying the emotional weight of everyone around us. We convince ourselves that if we just say the right thing, do the right thing, or love hard enough, we can prevent someone else's pain.

But the truth is:

You can care deeply about someone without being responsible for their feelings.

You can offer support without sacrificing yourself.

You can love someone and still have boundaries.

Healthy boundaries are not walls.
They are not punishment.
They are not abandonment.

They are the line between compassion and self-abandonment.

You are responsible for your actions, your words, and your choices.

You are not responsible for managing another person's emotions, reactions, or happiness.

Sometimes the most loving thing you can do—for them and for yourself—is to step back from the role of emotional caretaker and simply be present.

💜 Caring doesn't require carrying.

If this is something you're learning too, you're not alone.

What boundary have you learned that has protected your peace while still allowing you to care for someone you love? 💜

BPD Awareness Month 🤍

Borderline Personality Disorder is often misunderstood.

What people see:
• Intense emotions
• Rapid shifts
• Fear of abandonment
• Reactions that seem “too much”

What’s often underneath:
• A deeply sensitive nervous system
• A fear of losing connection
• Emotional pain that feels overwhelming and real
• A constant effort to feel safe

For those living with BPD — and those supporting someone who is — it can be exhausting, confusing, and heavy at times.

But there is also:
✨ Strength
✨ Deep empathy
✨ The ability to love fiercely
✨ A nervous system that can learn safety over time

This month is about awareness — but also compassion.

For them.

And for you.

You don’t have to understand everything to lead with kindness 🤍

A gentle reminder for anyone holding tension right now.

You don’t have to carry it all at once.

I didn’t even realise I was doing it.
That pause before speaking…
That tightness in my chest…
That feeling of bracing for something that hadn’t even happened yet.
When you’re supporting someone with intense emotions,
your nervous system can start living in survival mode.
Always scanning.
Always preparing.
Even in the quiet moments.
This isn’t about blame.
It’s about awareness.
If this resonates with you… you’re not alone 🤍

Self-care isn’t always what social media makes it look like.

Sometimes it’s not bubble baths or face masks.

Sometimes it’s:

• Taking a break before you hit burnout
• Saying “no” without over-explaining
• Sitting in silence because your mind is overwhelmed
• Drinking water when you’ve forgotten all day
• Letting yourself rest without guilt

If you’re supporting someone else —
self-care isn’t selfish… it’s essential.

You can’t pour from an empty cup 🤍

Be gentle with yourself today.

You’re doing more than you realise.
