Herpes is the most common infectious viral disease caused by the herpes simplex virus. This virus has the ability to spread very quickly through the skin and mucous membranes.
Many people are infected with this virus, but often it is in a dormant state, and a person does not even know about it. The herpes virus can be in a latent state, hiding in nerve cells, without causing concern to the carrier. Only 5% of those infected show symptoms of the disease, while the rest have herpes without clinical manifestations.
