Few people know that regularly eating too much is a psychological disorder, which in medicine is called "binge eating disorder." This disease is most often encountered by: adolescent children, people who grew up in an orphanage or a large family and experienced hunger, as well as those who deliberately limited themselves to food for a long time while dieting.
At the same time, people with such a disorder, after another overeating, feel guilty, reproach themselves for incontinence, feel disgust for their figure and, as a result, bring themselves to depression, bulimia, or more serious mental illness.
Symptoms
The disease has a number of symptoms that can be recognized not only by a specialist, but also by a person suffering from such a disorder:
absorption of food eliminates bad mood and stress, this leads to the habit of seizing problems;
the process of eating is difficult to stop;
it is impossible to control the amount of food eaten;
absorption of a large number of products at a time;
attempts to hide tasty things to eat while no one sees.
After analyzing how much was eaten, a person begins to reproach himself and become complex. Disgust arises in oneself. At the same time, attempts to control your weight will not be crowned with success.
Causes
According to experts, the cause of such a disorder may be food addiction caused by changes in the brain that are provoked by salty, sugary and fatty foods. This addiction is compared to drug addiction.
In addition to this reason, there are a number of factors that contribute to the onset of compulsive disorder:
Genetic. Food addiction can be caused by a genetic malfunction.
Hormones. Too low serotonin levels can lead to binge eating disorder.
Social factors. This can include stimulation with food in childhood or, conversely, criticism for excessive consumption of it.
Psychological. Depression, stress, low self-esteem and other factors can lead to overeating. The result is a vicious circle.
In many of the cases listed above, there is little cure for the disorder. The problem must be approached in a comprehensive manner, first of all eliminating the root cause.
Treatment
To heal, first of all, you need to reconsider your diet, no matter how hard it may be. You should switch to healthy food. Food should be put on a small plate, so it will look more voluminous, and the brain will give a signal of fullness earlier.
Food should be eaten 3 times a day. Small snacks are allowed between meals.
Do not fill the refrigerator with ready-made meals and desserts. This leads to the temptation to grab a snack before bed or even at night.
It is also better to give up diets in favor of a healthy diet.
Free time should be devoted to personal care or hobbies, this will relieve the desire to seize boredom.
In addition, you need to learn how to cope with depression and stress in other ways.
