Meet Isaïe NDAYIHIMBAZE, the beaming entrepreneur head of the social company “Maison ISAN”

Isaïe NDAYIHIMBAZE is founder of “Isan house”. Specialized in producing soap from mushrooms, avocado pits, and lemon and other ingredients easily found in Burundi, he says that these soaps foam and purify without chapping the skin and thus the first customers have been witnessing that. He therefore founded his own company “Maison ISAN”.

At the end of his studies at the University of the Great Lakes in Computer Science and Telecommunications, Isaïe NDAYIHIMBAZE thinks of entrepreneurship. He learns from others, often by paying, how to make soap while researching how to make different kins of soap on the internet. “Because I grew up in a science field in high school, when I graduated college, I found myself staring at the screen researching different things in that field to educate myself. Today, here I am in the soap factory and the food industry”, he confides.

Internet, the center of research

At the beginning Isaïe NDAYIHIMBAZE started teaching young people about self-development through an association, ODEDU-Burundi, which he himself had created. “But I had different issues. Most young people did not want to continue listening to lyrics without seeing concrete examples,” he says.

He later opted for the manufacture of soaps. He often went online to see how soap is made in developed countries. “I realized that the ingredients they used are easily found in Burundi. At the same time, I was paying money to others to teach me how to make soap while asking them why this, how that. In fact, I had already started, and so I was just asking them to check that what I did was correct,” he reveals.

Based on his research on the internet, Isaïe finds that there are plants that can replace the chemicals used in the production of soaps, imported from abroad. “For example, you can put lemon juice on your face to remove small pimples. As we wash ourselves with soap, a lemon used in the manufacture of soap can indeed play the role of chemicals. In a few words, there are components that are in this plant that can replace these chemicals,” he explains.

And to streamline: “So I started from research on the internet to the manufacture of soaps from mushrooms, avocado pits, lemon, ... Using the soaps made from mushrooms and avocado pits, I realized that it heals pimples but also softens the friction between the thighs. After giving them to those who suffer from tinea, they saw hair growing on their heads”.

Today, Isaïe is really proud of the results of and research and he is going all out. So that his soaps are not harmful to health and to produce quality soaps, the young entrepreneur Isaiah is guided by a chemist who tells him how to mix the different products to use.

Challenges due to lack of means!

“The means are difficult to find. In a few words, I try myself,” regrets Isaiah. Nevertheless, he is thriving to get by and maintain production at all costs. “There is a partner who cultivates mushrooms in abundance. He gives me a certain number of Kg then I pay it afterwards”, he informs us.

The young entrepreneur would like to buy some machines soon. “Despite the resource problems, I am already thinking about buying machines that would make my job easier. As soon as I need a soap cutting machine. Sometimes I hurt my fingers when I'm cutting the soaps because it's manual work and it's often risky. It even happens that chemicals inadvertently fall on the skin even though I am wearing gloves,” he complains.

Isaiah NDAYIHIMBAZE incarnates the kind of innovators that both Burundi and Africa need to boost their economy.
