Balancing your life + balancing your plate is not always an easy task. When there’s constant interference with the demands of work and family, it’s easy to take shortcuts and stray from those healthy foundations.
Getting back to basics with a balanced plate can also balance other things in the body. You may have more energy, have a better sleep at night and even feel better mentally. There are countless reasons why our health should still remain a priority with all of the interference going on in the world.
I always try to plan meals around a vegetable(s) and protein, and always make sure my first few bites include both of these. Eating your carbohydrates last will help to keep blood sugar levels stable. Starting with bread, pasta, fries or rice will raise blood sugar and increase appetite and portions at that meal.
Don’t forget your healthy fats! Making an olive oil salad dressing or cooking with avocado oil/real butter are a couple of ways to add these in. Avoid processed fats, seed oils and premade oily sauces and condiments whenever possible.
Above is a balanced plate of fried rice with cauliflower, coleslaw with homemade dressing and a 5oz steak.

Eating leftovers doesn’t mean you have to eat the exact same meal.
This particular dish features three leftover
takeout dishes from a local Indian Restaurant:
-Paneer
-Butter Chicken
-Basmati Rice
The only extra ingredient added was a couple of eggs. The result? An omelet-like creation featuring all of the delicious flavours of leftovers with a completely different texture and presentation!
I mixed together two eggs and about ¼ cup of basmati rice and poured it into a pan - preparing it just the way a traditional omelet is made. Adding the rice made the texture firmer.
The filling was a combination of both paneer cheese and small pieces of butter chicken. A small sprinkle of mozzarella was used on top of those ingredients.
Unique? I’d say so!
Balanced? Yes it is.
You may or may not want to try this, but just know there are multiple ways you can reinvent leftovers. The moral of the story is you can stretch leftovers in numerous ways, and it never has to be boring or repetitive.
