🦴 Shin Splints: Why Your Shins Hurt When You Run
Shin splints are a common issue for runners and active people, and they usually show up as pain or soreness along the shin bone (tibia)—most often in the lower 2/3 of the leg.
So what causes them? 👇
✨ Common triggers include:
* Running when your body isn’t properly conditioned yet
* Running on hard surfaces (like pavement)
* Running on banked/uneven surfaces
* Wearing unsupportive shoes
* Jumping into intense leg activity after a period of inactivity
* Running in cold weather without a proper warm-up
🦵 Why it happens:
Often, the calf muscles are strong and dominant, while the muscles along the front of the shin are weaker—creating an imbalance and extra strain on the tibia.
💪 What can help:
Strengthening the muscles at the front of the shin can improve balance in the lower leg and reduce stress on the shin bone.
📌 If you’re dealing with shin splints, don’t ignore them—your body is asking for support, conditioning, and recovery.
🚨 Why “Bending Over” to Lift Can Wreck Your Lower Back 🚨
When you bend fully at the waist (like touching your toes), your erector spinae muscles in the low back become overstretched.
And here’s the problem:
👉 Overstretched muscles can’t contract efficiently.
So when you try to stand back up, your body relies heavily on your hamstrings and glutes to pull you upright, while your low back muscles only start assisting more as you come out of deep flexion.
Now add a heavy object to that position… 😬
Improper lifting (rounded back + straight legs) can cause:
⚠️ painful spasms
⚠️ muscle strains
⚠️ ligament/tendon damage
⚠️ disc herniations
Your lumbar spine muscles are built for posture and stability… not for being the main lifters.
✅ Lift smart:
✔️ bend your knees
✔️ hinge at the hips
✔️ engage glutes + legs
✔️ keep your spine supported
