As a family, we live a bit of a nomadic life. We move between creating soaps, candles, and products at RavenSong and trading them for salty air, fishing boats, and coastal waters.

Our work has always been about more than the products we make. It’s about family, culture, community, and our relationship with the land and sea. These moments on the water with our children are just as important as the moments spent in the workshop. This is where stories are shared, traditions are carried forward, and memories become part of our legacy.

People often ask how we’re able to step away. The truth is, we can because we’ve built something incredible alongside a trusted RavenSong family and team. Their dedication allows us to embrace this season, knowing the business is in good hands while we invest in the next generation.

RavenSong has always been more than a soap company. It’s a reflection of our values, our community, and the life we’re intentionally building one that leaves room for culture, connection, and coastal memories that our children will carry with them for years to come.

This is one of the pillars of RavenSong, and we’re grateful to live it.

POV: Cody Assu, Co-Owner of RavenSong, is officially out of office and back where some of his deepest stories began—on the water.

This week, Cody has returned home to Haida Gwaii to skipper the Haida Girl as the 2026 halibut season gets underway. While many know RavenSong through soap, candles, and coastal gifts, fishing, family, and connection to the ocean remain part of the story that shaped who we are.

One of the biggest misconceptions about small businesses is that there is a large warehouse, a giant packing team, or mass production happening behind the scenes. The truth is much simpler.

There is no corporate fulfillment centre. No assembly line. Every RavenSong product is still made, poured, wrapped, labeled, and packed by real hands—10 fingers at a time. By women in our community. By our family. By a small team who care deeply about every order that leaves our doors.

So while Cody is on the ocean harvesting in his home territory, the rest of our team is here, keeping the stories moving: packing your orders, making products, and sharing a little piece of the coast with every box that leaves RavenSong.

From the waters of Haida Gwaii to our home on Vancouver Island, thank you for supporting a business built by people, community, and story. 🖤🌊🪶

Some things cannot be understood through products alone.

They must be experienced through stories, through teachings, through listening.

At RavenSong, many of the collections we create begin long before scent notes, ingredients, or product names. They begin with memories shared across tables. With artists, makers, knowledge keepers, and people carrying generations of teachings forward in different ways.

Carving is one of those practices.

The traditions of Northwest Coast carving have carried stories, identities, teachings, and cultural knowledge across generations. They remind us that creativity is not only about making something beautiful. It is also about preserving language, memory, and connection.

Carving Shed was created from that place.

A reflection on the spaces where creativity happens. On the smell of wood shavings and tools. On the quiet moments of learning. On the people who continue carrying these traditions forward.

Thank you to everyone who shares their stories with us.

Because stories carry culture.
And culture carries us.

National Indigenous Peoples Month 🪶

Today, we share a small glimpse of something we’ve been quietly working on for months.

As Indigenous people, we are inherent storytellers. Story is not just something we tell: it is something we carry, live, and pass forward through our hands, our teachings, and our creative work.

Through the foundation laid by Valerie, we honour the roots of the last 20 years she has built with RavenSong, an Indigenous woman whose vision and artistry shaped soap-making into more than a craft, but a way to hold and share Indigenous stories, land-based teachings, and memory in every bar.

Now, under the care of Ali, the new owner of RavenSong, we continue that responsibility with deep respect. We have been creating a series of videos that bring forward authentic Indigenous makers: moccasin makers, carvers, and artisans—who are actively shaping culture and carrying tradition forward in real time. These stories are about Indigenous joy as much as they are about heritage. We deserve joy, laughter, celebration, and success not only recognition of resilience, but space to thrive in our fullness.

Many of the pieces you see are still made the way they have always been made: with two hands, intention, and knowledge passed down, not mass produced. This is what makes them alive.

This is just a small moment from one of those videos, featuring someone special to Ali and to this next chapter of RavenSong shared with gratitude, and with more stories still to come.
