For those who are new here, I’m Shanell. I’m 29, a Capricorn, and I work in the energy sector as a Safety Representative while also pursuing further education in Occupational Health and Safety. My days are structured around work and school. Outside of that, I recharge by playing Stardew Valley, rewatching Sailor Moon, planning trips, eating sushi, and spending time with my two dogs, Brodie and Charlie.
Before Golden Botanical was a brand, gardening was my reset. It taught me patience, consistency, and intentional care. Over time, I realized I wanted that same approach for my skin. I struggled to find products that felt gentle, supportive, and aligned with a calm routine. Many felt harsh or overly fragranced.
That is how Golden Botanical started.
I set out to create gentle, affordable skincare that supports the skin barrier and works well for all skin types. Products designed to feel intentional and steady, not overwhelming.

The Citrus Orchard Barrier Support Serum was created for skin that needs strengthening, balance, and a little extra care. It is designed to support the skin barrier and bring back that healthy, comfortable feeling when your skin just feels off.
This formula combines vitamin C to improve clarity and even tone with niacinamide to support the skin barrier. Golden Botanical was created during a time in my life when I was dealing with a lot internally. Even when everything looked fine on the outside, there were days I felt low, anxious, and mentally drained. It can feel like your entire nervous system is attacking you, leaving you with zero faith or trust in who you are as a person. You feel isolated and try to push through each day without talking about it, just doing your best, only to go to sleep, wake up, and repeat the same pattern.
I know firsthand how emotionally draining this cycle is, and I wanted to create something that could make a difference. That's why a percentage of every dollar earned from Golden Botanical goes toward mental health funding across Canada through a charitable fund I've set up with the Edmonton Community Foundation.
My aim is to help create a space where we can talk more freely about mental health while also providing resources that support real change. These funds help community-based mental health organizations by contributing to counselling access, mental health programs, crisis support, and early intervention services for people who may not otherwise have access to care. Even at a local level, this kind of funding can reduce barriers, support healing, and remind people that they are not alone.
I believe that supporting each other builds stronger communities, and I hope our collective efforts can make a real difference. My goal is to raise at least $10,000 for mental health over the next ten years to help make that impact possible.

Golden Botanical is my small, independently owned skincare business and something I’ve been dreaming up for a long time. It grew from my love of plants, skincare, and creating space to slow down and take better care of ourselves. I’ve developed four thoughtfully made skincare products designed to fit easily into everyday routines. Each one is vegan, cruelty free, Health Canada certified, clinically tested, and made with botanical based ingredients.
