EyePrint scleral lenses are excellent for everybody! The misconception of specialty contact lenses only for diseased eyes or irregular eyes is not true. Scleral lenses are fantastic for anyone who is looking for an alternative to correct their vision.
Here I am, getting my own molding done for my own lenses! I have dry eye and soft contact lens intolerance like a lot of you and I have chosen (finally) to wear scleral lenses to get me back in contact lenses again! ✨Schirmer’s Test✨▫️▫️▫️
It is an important part to diagnostic testing and helps tease out important challenges as well as screening for an autoimmune disease called Sjögren’s Syndrome.
A lot of focus has been on MGD however we all know that almost 100% of the time, there is a mixture.
I was coaching my great staff on how to properly do the Schirmer 1 - instilling anesthetic, clearing the inferior fornix of existing tears before applying the strips for 5 minutes. This tests basal tearing and the function of the lacrimal gland.
The strips far left are mine .. I am in trouble it looks like. 😟 Middle is Trista’s .. not too bad for Edmonton’s dry climate. And far right is Brittany’s .. every dry eye patients DREAM lol 😆

✨Sun Pharma - Red Deer Evening✨
Thank you Sun Pharma Canada for supporting a great evening with the Red Deer doctors talking about important topics from advancements in dry eye, to ocular surface optimization before surgery, and the business side of patient care to help serve our patients better!
It was great to be on a panel with Dr. Riaz Ahmed from Mission Eye Care in Calgary, and Dr. Dylan Bartel; my better half 🤗
There’s so much happening and shaking in the dry eye world, and our job is to discern the information well, to think critically, and share experiences. Nonetheless, having these talks is a platform for iron sharpening iron to learn from each other 👌

✨EyeRecommend Regional Training✨
Last week, we took our entire office to the Regional Training in Edmonton put on by EyeRecommend. We were excited to bring our team to invest in their ongoing learning and to level up on areas that we can do better as a team to serve our patients better!
We are grateful to be part of such an amazing group that truly values independent optometry.
We’ve been working closely with our coaches and trainers these last several months and if I may be bold - there is no other and none other that has helped a new cold start office navigate the challenges of business ownership than EyeRecommend 🫶

✨First Théa Keynote - New York City✨
What an amazing weekend in NYC, where an amazing group of optometrist from across Canada came together to further developing our presentation skills
I was taken out of my comfort zone several times and made a fool of myself also many times, but it was done in a supportive environment with friends ☺️ Learned so much and ready to apply to become a better public speaker 🎤
Flexed my tourist muscle too ! Did a lot in a small span of time. Not too shabby for my first time in NYC!

✨Back Into Presenting✨
Being away from the speaker circuit for a bit because of life being a bit busy, I am re-entering (slowly) .. with my first one last night!
Topic of course was none other than Dry Eye, however it was in the context of the importance of the ocular surface being taken care of before any surgery to ensure the best results and the best comfort!

2023 … wow, what a year!
What a difference a year can make! We want to take the opportunity to thank every single individual who was part of this ‘something’.
The greatest gift and blessing we’ve received was the overwhelming support of industry, building team, staff, our families and close friends, and of course our valued patients. 🥹 Some of you have followed me around for the last 8 years!!
Doing a baby reflection on the year, it is clear that God’s hand was in on every step of our journey - good and bad, through the highest of ups and definitely in the deepest pit of our downs. Who we are and how we run our business is all because of Him. We give him the glory!
We’ll be taking a week and a bit of good rest and recharge so that we are ready to serve you more in 2024!
