If the form doesn’t follow the natural nail from both the free edge and the side walls, your structure will always build too wide and lose balance.

Proper placement = proper structure.

This is something I go in-depth on in my 1:1 structure & shaping training in Edmonton—because small placement changes completely transform your final result.”

Excessive filing is often a sign that the structure and product placement were not correct from the start.

When the product is placed properly—especially around the apex and stress areas—very little refinement filing is needed. Filing should be for refinement, not correction.

Over-filing can lead to thinning the product, weakening the structure, and increasing the risk of lifting or breakage over time.

In this clip, the focus is on controlled application and correct placement so the final shape requires minimal filing.

Good structure reduces the need for excessive correction work at the end of the set.

This is one of the core principles I teach in my 1:1 structure & shaping training in Edmonton—how proper placement from the beginning leads to cleaner, stronger, longer-lasting nails with less filing and better retention.
