Chamomile - Matricaria recutita (left) is a very popular plant. She, like many of her herbal companions, has been working with humans for eons. She is mostly known for her nervine (mentally calming) sedative abilities. Chamomile, however, is also a vulnerary (meaning she helps wounds heal quicker) and is antimicrobial. This is why she is the co-star of Sunshine Oil.

Calendula - Calendula officinalis (right) is the Chamomile's counterpart in Sunshine Oil. With her antifungal and incredibly vulnerary abilities, Calendula completes the purpose of this oil in being cleansing, healing, moisturising, and soothing. Using Sunshine oil on any topical irritation from burns to yeast infections will bring relief to symptoms and speed up the skin's recovery time.

The story of Sunshine Oil begins and ends with the power of the Sun. Upon moving to Canada (rainy pacific northwest) from Lebanon (dry middle east), I needed an ally to help me cope with all the dampness and the (eternal, albeit the mildest Canada can offer) winters.

When I sit with Chamomile, her delicate face turned towards the sun, she tells me "why bother trying to be anyone but yourself? Take pride in the small victories you constantly accomplish. Turn your face and hands to the sun, and allow it to bathe you in praise. You are worth it."

Calendula shows up in a vibrant orange sundress, brightening any space she glides into. She teaches me of carefree confidence. Of dancing like nobody is watching...or better yet, like everyone is watching! She reminds me of my innate Goddess wisdom.

Both of these plant allies feed the solar plexus (our center of digestion, willpower, self esteem, and inner fire) in many ways. Physiologically, they both support the gastro-intestinal system.

Sunshine Oil is simple, soothing and effective. Chamomile and Calendula are excellent dermatologists in the Herbal World. I use this oil in so many ways. One of my favorite ways is making a 1:1 mixture of oil and gentle unscented body soap. It makes a fantastic everything wash!
