Well, it’s more my opinion than anything but I always say you can do the best nail art in the world but if the cuticles look like a hot mess, it takes away from the whole set 🥲

The foundation matters. Nail artists should be learning proper cuticle work and clean product application because that’s what separates a good set from an exceptional one.

And the truth is, an exceptional set takes time. There are definitely unicorn artists out there who can do insane work in record time, but most of the time that comes with years of experience and a price tag that reflects it (as it should 💖)

In my opinion, it’s better to choose an artist who takes the time they need to give you beautiful results and keep your natural nails healthy underneath it all.

I totally understand that not everyone has 2–3 hours to sit for their nails. And honestly, there is an artist for everyone. What people value is different. A quick in and out appointment with a bit of oil at the end works for some people and that’s completely fine. But fast usually means something is being sacrificed, whether that’s detail, retention, or the long-term health of your natural nails.

For me personally, technique always comes first and speed comes with time and repetition. I set my clients up to actually enjoy their appointment, not rush through it. Drinks, snacks, tv, movies… it’s your little “me time” break while I focus on giving you my best work.

I’m also very transparent about timing in my booking system so clients know exactly what they’re signing up for. If my timing doesn’t fit someone’s lifestyle, that’s totally okay, there’s another artist who will be the right match.

And if you’re a nail artist, just a reminder that taking longer doesn’t make you less talented. It usually means you care about the details most people don’t even notice until they’re missing.

If you’re a client, what matters most to you when choosing a nail artist?
