Do you prefer summer ☀️ or winter ❄️ & why??

The great thing that about lash extensions is that they are perfect year round!! 📆

Some of my clients prefer getting their lashes done just for the summer because they love that they can swim in the lake 🏊‍♀️ go boating, & enjoy camping 🏕 with their family and friends…all while looking great, and not having to worry about getting those dreaded “raccoon eyes” 🦝 that you sometimes get from mascara. With the intense heat 🥵 we get here in the Okanagan, lash extensions make you look “put together” when you don’t feel like wearing any makeup on those hot, humid days!

Then there are others that prefer to get their lash extensions done in the winter because they don’t have to worry about being a “snow bunny” ☃️ and no raccoon eyes! This is also the time most of us in the Okanagan choose to take trips to tropical, warmer places, so lashes are needed!!

Personally, I think lash extensions are great for anytime of the year! And I do have regular clients that see me year round!! ☀️❄️🍂🌷 But another great thing about lash extensions is that they can easily be removed by your lash artist. So I have clients that get them for the just the summer, for the winter, or just for vacations & special occasions! And then they can choose to remove them when they want to!

Summer is my favourite season…and I’m personally not ready for it to end yet 😩😢 The nights are already getting dark earlier, and there is a crispness to the air early in the mornings…I’m hoping for a warm September! 🤞🏼 Anyone else??

Ever wonder why sometimes your lashes suddenly look sizzled and frazzled like in the first photo here on the inner corners?? Read to find out why AND how to avoid it in the future!! *see second photo of what lashes look like NOT sizzled!​​​​​​​​

So personally, I see this happening to my client’s lashes in the summer BUT it can happen year round! Lash extensions are now mostly made of a kind of plastic material. If you ever hear or see lash extensions labeled as “silk” or “mink,” that usually just refers to the kind of look that extension will have. For example, “silk” extensions may have a bit more of a shine to them. But nowadays I’m starting to see this less and less in companies offering the choice. But either way, extensions are made of plastic so they 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐌𝐄𝐋𝐓!! 😱​​​​​​​​

You can avoid this by making sure to avoid any source of heat getting too close to your lashes! For example - the bbq, campfires, using a lighter, or even the steam coming out of the oven when you open it!! (That’s me! I 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 forget to move my face out of the way when I first open up the oven! 💨😵‍💫)​​​​​​​​

If this does happen to you, no matter what season it is, be careful when brushing them! Because the frazzled tips tend to catch in a mascara wand, and you could accidentally pull out a natural lash with that sizzled lash getting caught up in there!! Just be sure to show your lash artist at your next appointment if they don’t see it and have them remove those “fried” extensions!​​​​​​​​

Pictured here is a photo of a Classic full set of lashes. 𝑨𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍?!? This young client has some of 𝑻𝑯𝑬 most gorgeous natural lashes ever! And after we apply the extensions, they are still just as gorgeous, but now she doesn’t have to worry about mascara! 👏🏼🎉​​​​​​​​

I also wanted to post this photo because people often think that Classic lash extensions are always “natural” and you won’t notice them. But for some, this set right here 𝑰𝑺 dramatic! Her natural lashes are so naturally long, healthy & she has so many of them that I didn’t even add that much length & they still look dramatic and full!! So, just because we aren’t doing Volume extensions, doesn’t necessarily mean that you & others won’t notice your lashes if we did Classics! Just something to keep in mind! 😉​​​​​​​​

Here are three things/questions to take into account or ask when deciding on whether to book with a lash artist or not:​​​​​​​​

1. The 𝐁𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐓 thing: Do 𝒀𝑶𝑼 like their work?! There are so many amazing lash artists out there, and they all have their own styles & techniques! 🙌🏼 If there is a well-known artist that 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 loves & wants to book with but their style doesn’t vibe with you - that’s okay! Choose someone with work that 𝒀𝑶𝑼 like, no matter how “famous” or “well-known” they may/may not be! 💗​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
2. Another big one! Are they able to & willing to answer any & all questions that you may have about getting lash extensions? 🤔 If it’s your first time getting extensions, having questions is normal! And a lash artist that can answer any questions you may have, in detail, is a lash artist I would want to book in with! 👍🏼​​​​​​​​

3. Last one for my list today, but definitely 𝐍𝐎𝐓 the last question you could ask a lash artist you are potentially wanting to book in with - ask to see their certifications 📑🎓 The lash industry is changing 𝗔𝗟𝗟.𝗧𝗛𝗘.𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘!! And because it’s changing so often, you want to make sure you book with someone that is keeping up with the trends and taking education all the time! 📚 Now, not all courses, mini courses, webinars, etc. will give out a certificate at the end so, if someone asked me this question I would probably show the certificates that I do have & then perhaps talk about the other recent education that I’ve taken.​​​​​​​​

What do you know about lash extensions? Do you know what really goes into being a lash artist, or even just being in the beauty industry? I've been thinking a lot about it lately 🤔 Not everyone understands 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 to look for when looking for a 𝑮𝑶𝑶𝑫 lash artist, and what makes someone a 𝑮𝑶𝑶𝑫 lash artist. And not everyone understands what goes into being in the beauty industry, period.

Some people may say that as long as they can apply extensions, they are good! Others say that the bigger, fuller and fluffier a lash set is makes a good lash artist. Or people may think if their extensions stay on for 8+ weeks that’s a 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑔𝑜𝑜𝑑 lash artist (but really, in my opinion, your extensions shouldn’t last that long. You are 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 your natural lashes!! If your extensions are staying on that long without growing out at all…I would take another look at where the extensions are placed and how they are applied 😉)

- if you need to cancel/change your appointment please give me 𝗔𝗧 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗧 12hrs notice ⏰ I know things come up but I don’t have much wiggle room as it is during the summer!

- if you cancel your appointment, please know I might not be able to get you in again for a week or two. I’ll do my best though! And we can always put you on the cancellation list in case anything opens up!

- if you cancel in less than 12hrs the “no call, no show” rule applies - aka the full amount will be charged to your account. Same goes with you not showing up. It doesn’t give me enough time to get someone else into your spot. Please understand 🙏 my time is as valuable as yours ❤️

- try not wear eye makeup when you come in for your appointment. 𝑷𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒆💗 It can take more time for me to remove & clean which means less lashing time for you! 😱

No matter what your favourite things may be during the summer, if you have lash extensions on, remember to be careful around 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐓!!​​​​​​​​
In these photos, if you look closely 🔎 at the first one in the inner corners, you will see that the tips are singed and burnt a bit. This can happen 𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒚, and not just in the summer! Watch out when opening the oven & the hot steam ♨️ comes out and you don’t move your face out of the way (this is me! haha I always forget to turn my face away!) 🤦🏻‍♀️​​​​​​​​
In the summer - the BBQ, lighters, and campfires 🔥 can cause singed lashes so 𝙗𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡!!!​​​​​​​​
Extensions are all made of a plastic material and will ​​​​​​​​
melt/singe with heat. This makes it hard to brush through your lashes, but also doesn’t look very nice! 👎🏼​​​​​​​​

So be safe, and 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 because it 𝙉𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙍 lasts long enough!! ❤️‍🔥​​​​​​​​
