Curling fine hair and want to make it appear fuller? Alternate your curl direction and take smaller sections. Let the curls cool completely and then spray texter spray in WHILE you comb out with your fingers.

Coarse hair shows colours (especially blonde tones and balayage) differently. They need to use all the at home care just like every other client, but the most important factor in that colour looking great is sealing the cuticle.
Toner helps seal it, but short term and not fully. Blow drying with a direction nozzle, in a downward motion against a round or flat brush also helps. Shine spray, smoothing creams, heat protectant, and oils help. Protein sprays and treatments to fill the cuticle.

Lots of things help. But the most important thing is how this coarse cuticle is lifted or coloured. Low and slow. Lots of clients hear me say that. The darker your hair, the more levels of lift and the more pigment it has to go through. I often refer to the cuticle as a diamond. When it is smooth it reflects light beautifully and looks bright and sparkles. When it is damaged, it refracts light and looks rough. A smooth cuticle that is a level 9 looks a lot nicer than a damaged one at a level 9. Healthy blonde will look brighter and whiter always.

Now all my coarse haired ladies; do you ever notice when your hair air dries it’s like meh, but when you blow dry, curl, or straighten it looks much nicer? You are smoothing the cuticle so that it can reflect light better.

“I pull red”

I get a lot of clients who say: my hair pulls red. Yes it does, all hair does!

If your hair is black/dark brown, your hair pulls red. If you are medium brown to dark blonde, your hair pulls orange. If you are medium / light blonde your hair pulls yellow. If your hair doesn’t pull any of these tones.. it’s no longer attached to your head. This is why TONER exists! When blondes come back and say “I still see yellow”.. sure ya do friend! Your toner has faded! It’s super important to know how this works if you want to maintain your colour. A simple shampoo or conditioner routine can stop the red/orange/yellow from showing.

If you see red, we Tone with green. Scary right? Not really. Green neutralizes red. Orange? Use blue. Yellow? Use purple. This is why purple shampoo is a blondes best friend. But did you know that blue shampoos exist for brunettes? Or deep blue conditioner for that super stubborn orange. It’s important to know why you’re using what you are. I get a lot of people who overuse their toning shampoo/conditioner. This will make your hair appear dull or muddy looking. Remember: warmth is not the enemy. To have healthy looking and shinny hair, you need to allow for some warmth to pop through. Light reflects off warm colour.

Any questions? 😘
