Mike Weaver, Alex Galchenyuk, Max Pacioretty and Sergei Gonchar were among the 11 players who visited the hospital on Monday. The other 11 went to Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine.
Without missing a beat, Weaver sat down a few feet away from Laurent, and also asked to get his nails done.
The other players signed autographs and posed for pictures with Laurent and his father, Réal Desrochers.
A liver cancer patient awaiting a transplant, Laurent 10, gets his nails done as a way to take his mind off his troubles, said Helen Panos, the owner of Spa Petit Pink, who volunteers to give patients and their parents manicures about once a week.
Laurent chose to make his nails black, while Weaver elected for pink, with extra glitter.
Known for being a supporting player on the ice, Weaver was a star on this day, working the crowd, hamming it up with kids and joking around with them to brighten their spirits.
“They’re very nice,” Laurent said, adding with wide eyes that Pacioretty is his favourite player.
