Carla has been working in the pelvic physiotherapy field for 14 years, and is qualified to successfully treat all ages and stages of life including pediatric, pre/postnatal, peri/post menopausal and pelvic dysfunction in all genders. Carla is also trained in pessary fittings and prolapse care. She has definitely helped many hundreds of folks in our community to achieve meaningful quality of life goals.

Pssst….You shouldn’t have to use your muscles to force urine out. A healthy bladder works best if the body relaxes so that your muscles can naturally contract to let the urine flow. Using abdominal muscles to bear down for urine is not healthy for your pelvic floor.

Hysterectomy Recovery ❤️‍🩹

If you know anyone who has gotten knee replacement surgery, you probably know “pre-hab” and rehab are an integral part of their preparation and recovery, as there are structural and muscular changes that are important to take into account long-term.

While around 45,000 knee replacement surgeries are performed on women annually in Canada, about 40,000 hysterectomies are performed annually in Canada as well, yet the approach to preparation and recovery is very different. We believe the standard of care for the joint surgeries should translate to that of pelvic surgeries, particularly those like hysterectomies that also cause structural and muscular changes.

In fact, there is growing research demonstrating that pelvic floor physiotherapy before and/or after pelvic surgery can help prevent issues such as pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, and bladder/bowel issues. We often see people that have specific pelvic-related problems or concerns, but we love seeing people preventatively or proactively too!
