This Old-School Haircut Trend Is Back—And Grandma Was Right All Along
This Old-School Haircut Trend Is Back—And Grandma Was Right All Along Right now, everyone’s going for a collarbone bob, and what some might consider boring is actually full of sneaky appeal and versatility. This summer bob is relaxed, low-maintenance, and easy to style.
Long, fake nails are easy…
Strong, natural nails? That’s the real flex 💅🏻✨
I’ve been deep in a natural nail journey lately—and let me tell you… this is not for the weak 😅
After decades of biting and picking, I’m basically retraining everything.
Will my sidewalls fully recover???? TBD… but we’re aiming for progress, not perfection 🤍
-💅 The Reality
Natural nails aren’t just about length… they’re about structure.
That soft C-curve (your nail’s natural arch) = strength.
Flatten that (biting, over-filing, picking)… and you get bending, splitting, breaking.
So yes—pretty matters.
But structure matters more!!!
-🧴 Hydration, Hydration, Hydration
Dry nails = fragile nails. Period.
✨ Cuticle oil daily (jojoba, castor, coconut—figure out what your nails like)
✨ Hand cream before bed (when I remember… let’s be real 😅)
✨ Consistency > perfection
Not every nail is the same—treat it like hair. What works for one won’t work for all.
-💪 Strength Support
I’m a big fan of nail strengtheners.
Right now I’m using OPI Nail Envy and loving it…
but I’m also curious to try Essie Nail Strengthener to see if there’s a difference 👀
I don’t use it daily—but every few days? Yes.
-🧼 Protect Your Progress
If you want natural nails… you have to protect them:
🧤 Gloves for dishes, bathrooms, floors—anything harsh
(chemicals + water = dryness + weakness)
💅 Your nails are not tools—open things accordingly 😅
-✂️ Cuticle Care (Less is More)
Push them back… yes ✔️
Aggressively cutting them? No ❌
Overcutting can damage your nail bed and actually affect how your nail grows out.
Healthy cuticles = protected growth. Simple as that 🤍
-💡 My Non-Negotiables
✨ Glass nail file (one direction only)
Less splitting, more control, super hygienic
✨ Glass cuticle pusher
Gentle + precise
✨ Clean tools always
Soap, water, a little alcohol spray… done
(Nail infections are NOT worth it—I’ve had one before… never again 🙃)
-😏 Real Talk
If you’ve ever been a nail biter… you get it.
For me, even getting my front teeth capped made biting harder—so part of this shift came out of necessity 😅
Now? It’s turned into something I actually care about.
A routine. A bit of a hyperfixation. A standard.
💅 Also… Let’s Be Honest
Natural nails don’t have to mean bare nails.
A soft pink or neutral goes a long way—especially when hair colour stains your nails (which… it will 😅)
Still natural. Just… polished.
🤍 Bottom Line
Natural nails are harder to maintain…
and that’s exactly why they feel like a quiet kind of luxury.
Not perfect.
Not identical.
Not instant.
Just well cared for.
If you’re on this journey too… I see you 👀

There’s a subtle shift happening in the beauty space lately… and it’s a fascinating one to watch 👀✨
I’m seeing more women lean into natural nails—short, clean, well-shaped, and healthy—rather than long acrylics or overly intricate designs 💅🏻
And if I’m being honest… that’s not the “easier” route. It’s actually the opposite.
Because the truth is…
✨ It’s easy to add something
✨ It’s harder to maintain something
Anyone can sit for a set of acrylics.
But growing out your own nails so they’re strong, even, and cared for? That takes consistency, patience, and attention to detail 🤍
And quietly… that’s starting to feel like more of a luxury.
I’m noticing the same pattern across the board:
💄 Makeup
A full glam look can conceal a lot…
But that soft, glowy, “your skin but better” look? That comes from skincare, discipline, and long-term habits ✨
💇🏼♀️ Hair
This is where it’s getting really interesting…
More people are leaning back toward their natural colour—or something very close to it 🤎
A) It reduces how often you need to be in the salon
B) It creates a softer, more effortless grow-out
But here’s what most don’t see…
That “effortless” look is actually very intentional.
Soft, blended highlights… subtle dimension… strategic placement…
That kind of enhancement takes a trained eye and real technique 🎨
A full colour change can be more straightforward…
But creating something that looks like you were simply born with it?
That’s where the artistry lives ✨
🌿 Healthy, glossy, well-maintained hair—without relying on heavy extensions or harsh contrast—is becoming the goal.
💅 Nails
Bold, elaborate sets make a statement…
But a clean, natural nail signals care, discipline, and refinement 🤍
–––
And here’s the bigger conversation…
At one point, long extensions, dramatic nails, heavy fillers—that was the luxury.
But when something becomes widely accessible and commonplace…
it quietly loses that “luxury” feel.
So what happens next?
The pendulum swings.
✨ Now, healthy skin is the flex
✨ Strong natural nails are the flex
✨ Thick, well-kept hair is the flex
Even in aesthetics… we’re seeing people soften things—less volume, more balance, more proportion.
Because when everyone starts to look the same…
looking like yourself becomes the standout.
And that’s where things get interesting…
True luxury today isn’t about adding more—
It’s about maintaining what you already have, and enhancing it just enough 🤍
It’s about embracing the little imperfections that make you… you.
Not covering everything…
Not overcorrecting…
But refining.
Of course, ✨️genetics✨️ always play a role—we all start from a different baseline.
But overall, there’s a clear shift toward intentional, subtle, well-maintained beauty over bold, high-maintenance transformation.
Less about chasing trends…
More about elevating what’s already there ✨
Have you noticed this shift too?
Hello, beautiful souls ✨ Let’s talk COLOUR, undertones, and how to make everything look more effortless 🎨💄
First — the vein test (a helpful clue, not a hard rule 😉):
🔵 Blue or blue-purple veins → often cool undertones
🟢 Green veins → often warm / yellow undertones
🟣 Neutral undertones → often a mix of blue and green, or veins that read more purply
(That “purple” look can happen when yellow-toned skin sits over blue veins.)
A few quick reminders 👀
• Lighting, skin depth, and circulation can change what you see
• Some people don’t see veins clearly — totally normal
• Use this as a starting point, not a verdict
💍 Jewellery tip (the fun part!)
✨ Cool undertones → silver, platinum, white gold
✨ Warm undertones → yellow gold, bronze, rose gold
✨ Neutral undertones → you can often wear both beautifully
💡 Why undertone matters
Undertone quietly influences what looks most “you” in:
• Hair colour (cool ash vs warm honey) 💇♀️
• Makeup shades (rosy vs peachy) 💋
• Clothing colours (crisp vs washed out) 👗
• Even how bright your skin and eyes look overall ✨👁️
🎨 Helpful hint:
Just like we all have a favourite clothing colour that makes us feel amazing… the same idea applies to hair, makeup, and jewellery. When things click, it’s not magic — it’s harmony.
✨ The goal isn’t rules or restriction — it’s to harmonize. ✨
You can usually go a couple of shades lighter or darker and still look natural. When something feels “off”, it’s often just a colour mismatch or a shade that isn’t enhancing what you already have — not a flaw in you.
This isn’t saying you can’t do anything you want. It’s simply helpful hints if you’re aiming for a more polished, classic look — while still feeling like yourself 💖
Stay radiant ✨️
✨ Is Your Shampoo Causing Hair Loss?
Understanding DMDM Hydantoin — and Why It’s in the Spotlight
Most of us choose shampoo based on scent, lather, or claims like “moisturizing” or “colour-safe.”
But there’s one ingredient that has become a major topic in beauty, health, and even legal circles:
❌ DMDM Hydantoin
A preservative found in both professional salon lines and drugstore brands.
---
🔎 Why Is DMDM Hydantoin a Concern Now?
⚖️ 1. Lawsuits & Consumer Reports
Over the past few years, several major brands have faced lawsuits claiming hair loss, scalp irritation, and follicle damage potentially linked to DMDM Hydantoin in their products.
These cases brought heightened public attention to the ingredient and led many consumers—and companies—to re-evaluate their formulas.
🧪 2. Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservative
DMDM Hydantoin slowly releases small amounts of formaldehyde, a substance classified as a known carcinogen with repeated long-term exposure.
While the cosmetic concentration is low, sensitive scalps, daily exposure, and cumulative use have raised understandable concerns.
💇♀️ 3. Scalp Health & Follicle Weakening
Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives can trigger:
Irritation
Inflammation
Increased shedding
Premature follicle weakening
This is why many people experiencing unexplained thinning are now checking their shampoo labels more closely.
🔄 4. Brands Are Reformulating
Because of growing awareness, many companies are updating formulas, removing older preservatives, and shifting toward “cleaner” ingredient profiles.
This means one thing for consumers:
👉 Some newer formulas are safe… while older bottles on the shelf may still contain DMDM.
---
⚠️ Professional & Drugstore Brands You MUST Double-Check
This is not about calling out brands — many stylists and consumers love these lines.
The key point is: within each brand, some lines are clean and others are not. ALWAYS check the bottle.
❗ Mixed-formulation brands (check each line):
Biolage
Matrix
Joico
Schwarzkopf
Redken
Paul Mitchell (older & Tea Tree lines especially)
Amika (varies by line)
A.G. Hair
Nioxin
Kenra
Sebastian
L’Oréal Professional
United Hair Care (ingredient data varies — treat as “check every product carefully”)
Keune (many formulas appear clean, but not all; verify each SKU)
❗ Drugstore brands to label-check:
OGX
Pantene
Dove
Garnier Fructis
L’Oréal Paris
📌 Important: I’m not saying these brands are “bad.”
I’m saying formulas vary, and DMDM Hydantoin is still present in certain products across many lines.
---
🧴 DMDM-Free Shampoos (as of current formulations)
Cleaner options that do NOT list DMDM Hydantoin or other formaldehyde-releasing preservatives:
🌿 Salon Brands
K18 Peptide Prep Shampoo
Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
Pureology Hydrate Sheer
Framesi Color Lover Moisture Rich
Keune Vital Nutrition Shampoo (still check bottle)
Aveda Nutriplenish
🛒 Drugstore
Native Shampoo
SheaMoisture
Maui Moisture
Monday Haircare (Most lines)
---
🚫 Ingredients to Avoid (Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives)
If you see any of these on the label, put the bottle back:
DMDM Hydantoin
Imidazolidinyl Urea
Diazolidinyl Urea
Quaternium-15
Bronopol
Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate
---
💡 Final Thoughts
Hair loss is emotional, and scalp health is foundational.
Choosing products carefully can make a real difference over time.
✨ Not all products within a brand are the same. Some are excellent; others need caution. Always check the ingredient list.
If you ever want help choosing cleaner, safer options for your household, I’m happy to assist.
