Did you know those little red bumps and slight swelling around the hair follicles after laser hair removal actually have a name? It’s called perifollicular edema — and it’s considered a normal and positive treatment response!
During your laser session, the light energy targets the pigment in the hair and converts to heat, damaging the follicle at the root. That heat can cause temporary redness and swelling around each follicle, almost like tiny goosebumps. This reaction is often a sign that the laser successfully reached its target and the follicles responded well to treatment.
Perifollicular edema usually appears shortly after treatment and can last anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days depending on the area and your skin sensitivity.
A little redness after laser? Totally normal.
