This very unique, handmade dobin is a traditional Japanese teapot characterized by its round, squat body and a prominent overhead bamboo handle attached to two lugs on the pot’s shoulders.

Designed to brew larger quantities of tea, dobin are typically made of heat-resistant ceramic, clay, or porcelain. They are the ideal vessel for infusing robust, everyday Japanese teas that require high brewing temperatures, such as hojicha (roasted green tea), genmaicha (brown rice tea), and bancha.

Traditional dobin usually do not feature built-in strainers, requiring users to use a handheld tea strainer or drop-in metal basket when pouring.

New Arrival: Whipped Tallow Face Cream & Lip Balm

Created in collaboration with and .art

Beef tallow has been used in traditional skincare for generations because its nutrient-rich composition closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum, allowing it to deeply nourish, protect, and hydrate the skin. Rich in naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, and K, it helps support the skin barrier, improve moisture retention, and promote healthy skin renewal. Its vitamin A content, in particular, supports collagen production and skin elasticity, helping to maintain a smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking complexion.

Osmanthus is renowned for its exceptional fragrance. The tiny flowers release an intoxicating scent described as a blend of apricot, jasmine, and warm sunshine.

Bamboo has a fresh, crisp, and slightly woody scent. It smells like a blend of cut green grass, cucumber, and damp morning dew, leaving a calming, spa-like impression.

Green tea generally smells fresh, grassy, and a grounding aroma reminiscent of freshly brewed matcha or sencha. It is typically mellow and subtly sweet rather than overpowering, blending soft herbal notes with a calm, clean earthiness.

In Japanese culture, incense (*o-kō* お香) is far more than a pleasant fragrance — it is a spiritual practice, a meditative art form, and a symbol of purification. Introduced alongside Buddhism in the 6th century, incense has long played an important role in temple rituals, tea ceremonies, and traditional self-care practices.

Unlike many Western-style incenses that rely on strong perfume oils, Japanese incense emphasizes refined, natural botanical ingredients and subtle, balanced aromas.

Most Japanese incense sticks are also *coreless*, meaning they are made without a bamboo center. This allows them to burn cleanly with minimal smoke and very little ash, creating a more delicate and calming experience.

Senkō (線香) is the most common form of Japanese incense. These slender sticks are crafted from finely ground aromatic woods, herbs, and natural binders, then extruded without a bamboo core.

Scents range from traditional woods such as aloeswood and sandalwood to contemporary fragrances inspired by nature and the seasons, including bamboo, cherry blossom, green tea, osmanthus, and yuzu.

Free tabi when you book any appointment of 60 minutes or more to celebrate May; Asian heritage month and the spring season. 🌸

Tabi are traditional Japanese socks with a split between the big toe and other toes, designed for wearing with thonged footwear like geta and zori. Originating around the 15th century, they symbolize traditional etiquette, formal purity (white), and specialized function (e.g., in martial arts). Today, they are popular for daily comfort, better balance, and modern fashion.

Cherry blossoms, or sakura, symbolize the transience of life, renewal, and beauty in Japan. Blooming for only a short period each spring, they represent the fleeting nature of existence and the importance of cherishing the present moment, a concept known as mono no aware. They also signify new beginnings.

Symbolism of Sakura

Transience and Mortality: The quick blooming and falling of petals serve as a poignant reminder that life is short and beauty is temporary.

Renewal and Hope: As they bloom in early spring, sakura mark the end of winter and the beginning of a new season, symbolizing optimism and fresh starts.Mono no Aware: This concept, translating roughly to “the pathos of things,” is a deep appreciation for the ephemeral beauty of life, tinged with a gentle sadness.

Warrior Spirit (Bushidō): Historically, the sakura symbolized the samurai, representing a life that is beautiful, intense, and short. The proverb “Hana wa sakuragi, hito wa bushi” (The best blossom is the cherry blossom; the best man is the warrior) highlights this connection.

Unity and Celebration: Hanami (flower viewing) is a centuries-old tradition where people gather to appreciate the flowers, emphasizing community and appreciation of nature.
