Today the culinary world lost one of its great thinkers and advocates.

Carlo Petrini, founder of the Slow Food movement, passed away at the age of 76. His vision helped remind the world that food is more than convenience. Food is culture, agriculture, community, biodiversity, family, and time shared together at the table.

Long before “farm to table” became a trend, Petrini was speaking about protecting small producers, preserving traditional foodways, and supporting food that is good, clean, and fair.

For chefs, grocers, farmers, and food lovers in the Okanagan, many of the values we hold close today were shaped by the movement he created.

Tonight at Oliver Eats Ltd we raise a glass, share a meal slowly, and remember a man who changed the way the world thinks about food.
