Vancouver's hair and resource centre for the trans community (and beyond)! Learn more and book appointments here: https://BigBrosBarbershop.com

Big Bro's Barbershop has been serving East Van since 2015 as one of the few brick-and-mortar spaces dedicated to the wellness of the transgender community. Though haircuts are our profession, we also offer gender-affirming products, peer support, community networking, and more!

Sorry folks: our back parking lot will be closed all this week to be repaved! Luckily, our neighborhood has a decent amount of free street parking available near us. Apologies for the inconvenience - at least we’ll have a much nicer parking lot after this week!

After our many no-showed appointments this fall, we are finally updating our no-show fees for the new year! Clients will now be charged $10 per half hour booked, which will help us cover the cost of staff wages during the missed appointment.
*We will also be charging for cancellations within 24 hours for colour appointments - however, if you inform us of the cancellation versus leaving us hanging, we will waive one hour from your charge!

The total breakdown of what to expect with these changes can be found at BigBrosBarbershop.com/FAQ - click the link that says "What is your cancellation policy? Is there a fee?" to jump directly down to that section.

Thanks for understanding, and for helping us stay afloat while keeping our staff paid!

If you've been regularly checking our stock, either online or in-person, wondering where all of our binders are: you're right in thinking that our most common sizes have been sold out for an unusually long time! Unfortunately, when our restock arrived in October...the courier lost it. Those binders are just gone now. Or someone has ended up with 50+ very bizarrely compressive tops that they don't know what to do with.

Our order is being made from scratch, but likely won't arrive for at least a few more weeks 😔 If you'd like to get an email notification as soon as they arrive, send us an email to [email protected] or using the Contact form on our website!

Due to our renovations going significantly over budget, we’ve been stuck paying off loans that have been keeping us juuust shy of breaking even all year!

Want to support us in paying rent a little smoother (and letting Jessie pay himself a li’l something every now and then)? If you’re a client of Big Bro’s: it makes a huge difference financially for us when you keep your appointments or offer notice, versus no-showing or canceling last minute! And if you’re an ally looking for ways to show support, we’ve got six months of videos being posted just for you over at Patreon.com/BigBrosBarbershop!

(Don’t mind our clumsy fb post - our video in the comments was meant to be the third slide, but apparently photos and videos aren’t allowed to be posted together, grumble grumble)

Heads up, drivers: the entire alley behind Big Bro's - including our three parking spots - will be fully closed over the next week! There is still free street parking in the area around us, including just across the alley from us along Broadway.

Despite the construction behind us, we will still be open! Check out our available bookings for the week here: https://bigbrosbarbershop.com/book-an-appointment

Our weekends always fill up a few days in advance over the summer, but things always slow down around here once the gloomy weather kicks in! If you were thinking about swinging by for a last-minute cut this weekend, we have several gaps in our bookings available for you to snag!

It's been a struggle to keep up with our post-renovations loan payments, especially as we enter our slower period and after our staff got knocked down by Covid! To help pick us back up, our in-house artists, Zed and Alex, have very sweetly donated the sale of their most trans-coloured art to the shop. 💖🏳️‍⚧️ If you're looking for ways to support the shop beyond coming in for cuts, consider taking home some of these goodies!

And, for folks who may not live close enough to stop by the shop in-person: consider donating to our Patreon! We'll be putting out one informational video per month from October-March, specifically intended for allies and families of the trans community.

More content is coming soon to Patreon.com/BigBrosBarbershop!

It’s been a struggle to pay off the loans from our renovation, so we’re doing a 6-month stretch of Patreon video uploads, with content specifically for allies! From Oct to March, you can look forward to videos about:

OCTOBER: What can allies do for the trans community during these difficult times?
NOVEMBER: What even is gender transition, anyway?
DECEMBER: Is this a new fad? We didn’t have trans people back in my day!
JANUARY: What is chest binding? How do I support my child in binding safely?
FEBRUARY: What is tucking? How do I support my child in tucking safely?
MARCH: Someone in my life wants to transition, and that scares me!

If you'd like to keep up with our videos, sign up for our Patreon! And in the meantime, you can check out some of our older quarantine-era videos!
