The brand new Shades ALK just dropped and I had to test it up against the OG Igora Vibrance.
This is Redken’s first alkaline demi. Used with 10 vol there is a chance to bump the base, but also some translucent coverage of greys.
Schwarzkopf Vibrance has been doing this for many years now, and they just released new acidic Blondme toners.
What do you think of the results? I want to hear your opinions!
Should we try the Blondme vs shades EQ next?

When you’re choosing where to grow as a stylist, the environment matters just as much as the education. One of the easiest ways to understand a salon’s culture? Read the reviews.
Look for patterns.. are clients talking about the full team, the vibe, the communication, the consistency? Do they mention feeling supported, welcomed, or cared for?
Those details say more about a salon’s culture and mentorship style than anything you’ll see on Instagram.
The right environment shows up long before you ever walk through the door… it shows up in what clients notice, how they feel, and who they trust.
If you’re trying to understand a salon’s energy, start with the people who experience it every day.

🚨What. A. Transformation!! 🚨
My client came in wanting something new but had no idea what. I asked if I could just surprise her and she was game. And a surprise it was. 😉 Make sure you swipe for the before, because this was a journey.
• virgin application on regrowth with
• bleach and tone on the roots and corrective lightening through the mids during round 2.
• creative colour including a root, a melt, a veil, and a prism technique. (This was approx 7 bowls!) All thanks to
Finished off with Restore Perfecting Spray, and PHD 5 in 1 styler.
👀 Peep that pre-lift and helping with the surprise.

This might be my favourite colour ever. It was giving Lindsay Lohan meets Blake Lively.. and this photo does NOT do it justice. Oh well, at least the sun was still up. 🙏🏻
I hope you’re all enjoying this beautiful summer weather. Just a heads up that I might be shifting my schedule slightly, but I also might be able to open up some more space too. TBD. :)

SKILLS NATIONAL COMPETITION 2023
Last week I had the pleasure of representing with my first Secondary National competitor in Winnipeg, .lingwithstyle
If you caught my last post about provincial skills then this is no surprise that this was a truly full circle experience!
I’ve learned so many things being on the other side of the little barrier separating spectators from competitors. I really thought competing was the most stressful thing you can do; turns out it’s training a competitor.
Soo, my co-trainer, and I spent most of the competition time circling the event space to distract ourselves. It’s a strange experience helping someone at their craft for 6 months to then not being able to communicate at all.
Estella really worked hard this last month and it paid off. She placed 3rd in Secondary Hairstyling! 🏅(I didn’t even place at Nationals :P) and yes, Soo and I both cried. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to kick off our Skills “training career”.
I truly hope I get to be a part of Skills for many years to come. The value is immeasurable, and now being on the other side, I can confirm it continues to pay off for a lifetime. (Minus the food poisoning- that can stay in 2023).
Estella along with all of our provincial competitors truly set themselves apart from any other stylist entering the industry. The abilities they will leave school with set them ahead and can prepare them for “real life” in the salon. I hope to see them all excel in this industry - and you’ll be sure to catch me cheering them on from the spectator side of that little barrier. 🎉 🏅 💇♀️

Another long post by yours truly.. 😇
11 years ago I competed in the Secondary Alberta Skills Competition in Edmonton and absolutely failed miserably after demolishing the regional comp. I made a promise to myself to go back one day.
8 years ago a wonderful but rigid woman named Renata trained Aron and myself (aka- the A-team) through to the Post Secondary BC Skills Competition in Abbotsford where I won gold and moved on to the National Skills Canada Competition in Saskatoon. I once again failed pretty miserably, but with my head held high. Renata became someone very close to me to this day.
Today I returned once again, but with 5 students, both in secondary and post secondary, to the BC Skills Competition in Abbotsford as one half of their training team.
If you would have told me 8 (or 11) years ago I’d be helping 5 hardworking, talented, dedicated students in Skills I wouldn’t have believed you. Today was a small full circle moment for me. I am so proud to be a little blip in the beginning of their careers. I don’t know if they know how much today meant to me, but I hope they feel if only an ounce of the joy I felt in watching them from the sidelines.
Team VCC had 5 competitors, 2 of which who left with a bronze medal, 1 silver, and 1 gold! 🏅 🏅 🏅 🏅 🏅
This team that spent the last few months with us has warmed my little grinch heart. To say I’m proud wouldn’t even scratch the surface.

Throwback to the sun being on my side. 🌞
If you saw my stories you’ll know that we did a wicked highlighter green/forest green/black ombré but do you think I could get a photo of it? 🙄
Anyway… 50 days until spring. 🌺 ⏰
