Why Do PMU Brows Turn Blue-Grey? 🤔

One of the most common questions I get is: “Why did my old permanent makeup turn grey?”

Over time, some pigments fade unevenly, leaving behind cool blue, grey, or ashy tones in the skin. This doesn’t necessarily mean the work was bad—it can happen due to pigment choice, skin chemistry, sun exposure, and simply the way pigments break down over the years.

✨ In this photo, we’re performing a colour correction.

Instead of covering the old grey pigment with another cool colour (which would make the problem worse), we use a carefully chosen warm corrective tone to neutralize those blue-grey undertones and bring the brows back to a more natural-looking colour.

Not every set of old brows is a candidate for colour correction alone.

These brows are just faded enough that we can likely achieve another successful correction. However, if the goal is a significant shape change, colour change, or a complete fresh start, I would recommend some form of removal first, such as:

• Saline removal
• Laser removal

Sometimes correction is the best option. Sometimes removal is the best option. The right choice depends on what’s left in the skin and your long-term goals.
