Your SPF might be blocking UVA and UVB... but what about visible light?
Here's what most people don't realize: visible light (the kind from the sun you can actually see) penetrates deeper than UV and triggers pigmentation, especially in melanin-rich skin tones. If you're dealing with dark spots, melasma, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, this matters.
That's where tinted SPF comes in. The iron oxides in tinted sunscreens are what actually block visible light. A clear or untinted formula, no matter how high the SPF, won't protect against this.
Quick breakdown:

💡 Visible light = only iron oxides (tint) block this
🧑🦱 Melanin-rich skin = more reactive to visible light
