It is actually a very normal phenomenon and expected response during your laser hair removal especially with devices like Candela GentleMax Pro.

When people say “follicles are jumping out,” what they are usually describing is a combination of hair shaft expulsion plus a follicular reaction happening right after the laser pulse.

After the laser energy targets the pigment in the hair, it rapidly heats the follicle. The heat damages the follicle structure and weakens its grip on the hair shaft. So the treated hair can start to push upward and out of the follicle opening.

This process is called perifollicular edema and extrusion. It’s basically a controlled inflammatory response where the skin reacts to the treated follicle.

A few reasons it looks dramatic sometimes:

-Steam/heat expansion inside the follicle slightly loosens the hair
-Sebum and dead keratin get pushed up with the damaged hair shaft
-The follicle opening becomes more visible temporarily due to swelling
-Coarser, darker hair tends to show this effect more clearly
So in short: it’s not the follicle “escaping” or being pulled out immediately. It is the treated hair being pushed out as the follicle begins to shut down and shed it naturally.

If anything, it’s often a good sign that the laser has effectively targeted the hair.
